Does anyone know or have similar shit on their front lights? 2022 Lariat with 502a (projecting headlights). Is it the protecting coating/film peeling?

Any fix if you do?

Looks like the clear coat on the lens. Have you used any chemical cleaners on your headlights?

Unfortunately, you would have to strip the rest of the clear and reapply. Guarantee dealer will replace entire assembly assuming the warranty claim is approved.

That’s what I was thinking. I have mobile Detailer that cleans truck so who knows. He does a good job but not sure on that and truck sits outside in elements so that too. I’m out of my factory warranty wonder if my extended warranty I have would cover them. It’s too bad yet so not a big deal but if it gets worse.

If you leave it the clear will continue to peel off. Without a clear coat the headlight plastic lens will deteriorate faster, it will start to look cloudy. I had some eBay lights on a previous vehicle and they did the same. Eventually the clear started to bubble and it stood out, I chose to let it be and never fixed it.

I missed what year it is. If your big into diy you can pull the headlights yourself to wet sand the remaining clear off. Then tape it off and apply a clear of your choosing. Another option would be to pull the headlights and take them to a auto paint shop. Either way will be considerably cheaper than buying new lights.

My wife has a 2020 Explorer ST, we bought it brand new in November of 2019. Her headlights started peeling just like this a few years ago, the car was about 3 years old when the peeling started. I have personally hand washed the car every single time with Meguiar’s car soap, and have never used anything abrasive. I chalked it up to normal wear and tear of being in the elements and sun for years. Still irritating, but it seems to be the design of Ford headlights. My F150 is a 2025, so I’ll see how it holds up.

Get a headlight repair kit and buff it out. Then wax them. I wax my headlights every 6 months seems to keep them happy.
Do you use the sandpaper kind or just the buff and polish and seal

I have used both. The sandpaper kind you just have to be gentle. Rubbing compound works good, just don’t go hard soft and easy. Then a good wax first time maybe a couple coats and buff it out.

I let it be. She has an extended power train warranty, but her bumper to bumper was expired by the time the lights started peeling. I have not tried a headlight repair kit. I have been kinda worried about destroying the rest of the factory film that hasn’t peeled on them yet. It’s only the top facing part that is peeling, as it gets more UV and elements exposure.

It’s probably the similar areas to mine it’s only doing it on the top near where the lights goes into the hood. Same I won’t mess with it until it gets worse the damn lights are too pricey lol. Most people probably wouldn’t even notice it unless you are ocd like me lol
