I have the F150 2024 Powerboost XLT. Yesterday I installed a dashcam (both front and back), routed all the wires underneath the trip and brought them to the front. On the front I used the below dash cam adapter.

My question is the following. The dashcam works fine because the original 16 pin connector was pulled out from behind the mirror and attached to the adapter. So I know it's getting the power. However when I pushed the 16 pin female end of the adapter into the back of the rear view mirror I am not sure if it has seated correctly or not since I don't hear a click. I am afraid to push harder lest any pin gets bent. What is the power on this mirror for in any case? I don't see any controls that let me do anything with the powered rear view mirror. Is there a better way to plug in or can I leave it as is since dashcam is getting power and I don't see any power features for the rear view mirror?

The point of the mirrors being powered is an auto-dimming function. So when a vehicle approaches in your rear and has bright lights they don't reflect into your view. It's likely the connector is stiff because the tolerances of a likely foreign made connector aren't correct. I say push a little harder unless it actually feels as though something is going to break. Or... take a picture of the pins to confirm they aren't bending.

The harness supplies accessory hot 12v to the mirror. Piggy back adapters like the Dongar 16-pin Type A adapter or copies like the one linked utilize either a buck converter or series of resistors to drop the voltage from 12v to 5v at the usb connector which the majority of dash cams operate on.

Since you didn't hear a click on the mirror, chances are the plastic tab is molded in such a way that the lock tab either won't lock into place or simply just didn't make an audible noise. If both the mirror and camera function then you're fine.

How do I check if the mirror functions? For safety reasons I have also ordered a dongar and will try that one out too

Have to trigger the sensor. Drive around at night or have a friend pull up behind you with their brights on and see if the mirror auto-darkens. You can also have a friend stand at the back of the truck with a high-powered flashlight and see if that triggers it. If the rear window is tinted on top of the factory tint it may cause the mirror to not darken as readily.

I purchased a dash cam and an adapter. After installation the dash cam worked as intended. During first rain after installation, the auto sensing function and the intermittent wiper function failed to work properly. I removed the adapter and everything worked perfectly. somehow the adapter interfered with my wiper functions-the auto sensing is located in the mirror. Returned the dash cam and adapter. Mine may be an isolated occurrence. 2023 Lariat PowerBoost.
