VIDEO - Rattling on Accel, 3-4k RPM?

2022 F-150 5.0

Two videos attached. I am getting a rattling sound from behind the dash on acceleration, typically between 3-4k RPM. It will just keep rattling if I leave the RPM in that range.

Doesn’t sound like a heat shield, but I have checked all of the obvious ones and haven’t found any noise.

Verified hood isn’t rattling, adjusted the stops.

Does this sound like internal engine noise, or something else?

Are you running 87 octane?

If so, throw some premium in and see if it goes away

I don't know that it's ever been definitively explained by anyone, but it should make you feel better to know that a lot of them do it. It could be the hood from what people are saying towards the end of that thread. Mine's done it from day one, but my motor has never had any issues. I've always run 93 top tier so i know it's not the fuel. I've done motorcraft synthetic the last few oil changes, and if it helped any, it wasn't by a noticeable amount.

The 5.0 is a noisy engine with all those chains wrapped around four camshaft phasers and 32 valves. Sounds normal to me.

Thanks for the replies y’all. Just finished up doing a cam phaser job on a friends 3.5. While it’s not the same engine, I understand more of the complexity going on inside these engines now.

I also did some more research on the 5.0, and I see that many people report these are just noisy engines. I’ve done an oil analysis recently that came back clean, so I guess it’s just time for a louder exhaust.

Sounds exactly like my 2024 Lariat. I was amazed at how noisy this engine is compared to my old 2009 5.4L 3V. Which not only sounded perfect, refined and smooth, but gave me no trouble.
