I need to get the amp power cable through the firewall on the passenger side. I have cut the nipple off the rubber grommet on the firewall that is behind the distribution box and was able to push a coat hanger through the second rubber grommet wall but can’t get the coat hanger to drop down where I can find it so I can tape the power cable to the coat hanger and pull it through. Do you have any ideas, tips or tricks to get the power cable through the firewall?

Be very careful. Several people have done this and broken wires resulting in all sorts of issues, including no start.

Noted, I have been fighting with getting through the firewall and had no luck. May have to find a different way

I used the method that @EcoBeastCA showed in one of their posts. I was able to get a 4 gauge power and ground through with a bit of effort. My wires were Kicker Marine Grade and I wrapped them under the hood as well as the short bit where they run through the badge area. I'm extremely happy with the result.

Any idea where the post is you are talking about that shows how they did it?

Sure, this is the one. Running wire

I can respect those that had concerns about leaking, but I think that is pretty remote. The fact that I got two four gauge wires (Marine grade which are thicker) routed from the battery back to the back of the cab in probably about 45 minutes or so was well worth it. I studied multiple methods and none that I found were as simple with this method and they also had their own risks.

For a good laugh, I called CarToys and asked what they'd charge to run two 4 gauge wires for me and they came back with $300. I get it, they didn't want to do the work, but it just wasn't worth the hassle factor to me to go with some of the other options. I think in the end, whatever you're comfortable with will be fine. I'm sleeping well at night with what I did.

Also, I didn't have to drill out the mushroom tabs that held the badge in place. I found a video - sorry I don't have a link at the moment - but the guy put painters tape around the badge on all sides and then used a plastic pry tool - think radio install tools - to remove it. I did it that way and it worked perfectly. I never had to drill anything and to put it back in, it just snapped back in like any other piece of trim.

What it just held on with clips or did it also have double sided tape?

Just clips. I never did see any tape that people were talking about. For me, it was no different than any interior trim piece.

Not sure what year you have but on my 2024 there was a slightly simpler way to pass through the firewall. As you’re looking at the area you are talking about where you cut the nipple look down and to the right (closer to the driver side) and you’ll potentially see an oblong gasket. The nipple is very difficult to use but this gasket is lower and easier to see in the passenger footwell.

I went in through the same grommet as you. My son in law had to wiggle in down the pass floor board to find the wire and pull it into the cable. I then lubed the power wire and pulled through. I ended up pulling several wires through the same hole and lube helped. Zero electrical issues.

I went to the hardware store and bought a small diameter aluminum tube, about a 1/4 inch diameter. I think it was about 10 inches long. I cut the the end of the tube at a sharp angle so it would cut through the second grommet. Once I popped through I ran a 18 awg wire through the tube and looked for the wire inside. Once I found the wire I removed the aluminum tube leaving just the wire passing through the grommets. I attached my power wire to the 18 awg, lubed the wire with soap, and pulled it through.

I have a 2022 xlt. Would you by chance have any pictures of either side of the gasket you are speaking about?
