Just wow

Kind of a PITA digging in your pocket for the fob when seated, eh? Takes away a lot of the convenience of that power tailgate (used mine Saturday when backing up to a loading dock at the West Marine store, lots of other times, too (y)).

Good Luck adding that button!
I feel ya, I used it from time to time as well when I had it on my 23.

I looked up the headlamp switch wiring on the 150 and 250.

Pin 4 controls the tailgate open/close on the 250 but on the 150 it controls the fuel door for the hybrid.

Pin 12 on the 150 harness controls the cargo/dome lights.

I also looked up the tailgate wiring diagram, the wire color that connects to the physical open/close button on the tailgate is brown. That brown wire was the wire that was connected to the interior open/close button in years past.

So from the looks of it you cannot just replace the switch and turn something on in forscan to make this work.

The F-150 diagram is the only diagram that is listed for a gas/hybrid truck. Its possible that the gas only trucks have a different harness and contain the needed brown wire at the headlamp switch to make it work. Only way to be certain is the pull the switch and look at the wires in the pigtail.

Here's a few pics I just snapped of the harness on the back of the headlight switch assembly. Let me know your thoughts and thanks for taking the dive on the diagrams!

Thanks for the pics, your wiring matches up with the diagram I posted above. Even though you have an Ecoboost you have the wiring for the fuel door release. Seems like Ford just put the same harness in all the trucks regardless of it being a hybrid or not.

I cant find a 25 Raptor specific diagram but I bet it similar to the F250 harness.

I was hoping for an easy switch swap to get this too work, but it looks way more involved than that.

How about comparing a wiring diagram for the 2025 Raptor, as mentioned previously in the thread? Maybe that could help? Raptor has the tailgate button on the light assembly, and this part SC3Z11654CA shows it works for 2025 F150.

Doesn't your 2025 Platinum come standard with the Bed Utility Package including power open / close tailgate?

Yet it has no push button in the cab to open / close the tailgate? You have to go to a touchscreen for that? (  )
According the the '25 owners manual the trucks with the Muiti Access tailgate should have tailgate switch gear just like those on the 250's. I'd be raising hell if I'd ordered a '25 in expectation of having this feature.

Of course the order guide says that an XLT with 302a or higher comes with remote start along with remote tailgate release (preumably on the fob)...and the owners manual only shows remote tailgate release with the fancy tailgate, specifally not with the non-powered manual tailgate. Glad I don't care for it (an open bed needs no remote tailgate) and would rather not pay for it. But it seems its gonna be interesting to see what actually shows up...if it shows up!

I pulled up the diagram for the headlight switch using a Raptor vin number. It is the same diagram I got when using a regular 25 model as the input information. I am using Fords PTS system to look these diagrams up aswell.

Here is what it shown when I used a 25 Raptor vin.

Thanks for doing the digging. I'm confused, the Raptor has tailgate release but the diagram has no mention of it. The green and violet looks to be for interior and cargo lights on a Raptor. I see a green and violet on the back of my existing switch. That's position 12 on the 2025 F-150 diagram, right? Which indicates that's for the tailgate.

That green/violet wire (pin 12) controls the rear cargo lights in the third brake light according to the diagram. I dont know why it says tailgate/decklid/cargo # lock on the switch diagram. It must be generic wording from Ford. It would be nice if someone with a 25 Raptor that has the button could pop the switch out so we could compare the wiring to your truck.

no one jump me...but if the wiring is there for the fuel door, but you dont have one couldnt you just find that wire, tap into it and run it to the tailgate harness? thats i guess saying its even ran that direction on a non powerboost truck. or pin into the BCM where the fuel release would be but go directly to the tailgate?

sorry, bored in class. i have no skin in this but i'm currently doing series/parallel capacitance...figuring true power, reactive power and apparent power

Any input is appreciated! Honestly, I don't know enough about these trucks and the way the signals work. I grew up doing alarms and car audio and it used to be pretty simple. These days I have no idea how signals are sent and received. I remember back in the day how Dodge locks, windows, door pins, for example worked off of resistance and tapping into a simple wire wasn't enough. You have to add an inline resistor to communicate the proper signal across a single wire. Perhaps others can give us some insight as to how it all works on the Fords. Good luck with your studies!

My 2025 Lariat has the tailgate release button next to the fuel door release button but the tailgate release button doesn't work. Is this another option or does it just not work?

You sure that's not the bed-light button? That's what's on my 2025 Lariat with PAT.

Oops, you guys are totally correct, my mistake. The button next to the fuel release door is actually for the cargo lamp. That said, still a total PITA not having a tailgate release button on the dash.
