3.5 turbo fluttering with woop woop noise

I have a 2021 f150 3.5 Lariat with 23k miles.

I started hearing a high pitched woop woop noise and then started watching my turbo gauge. At around 25% turbo usually up a hill or under load the gage starts to bounce around and I get the woop woop noise.


Any idea what this might be? Is it normal?.

It’s also different than just normal turbo spool which we don’t hear much on these unlike diesels. Also mine always seemed like wrong timing for that anyway. It would be during the load/hill or spool up not after

I have also notice the turbo ???. I thought it sounded cool, but I don’t think the 3.5 eco boost are suppose to do that. Turbo blow back?

That is my thought right now, I have had a few issues with this truck and it always starts out as "that's normal" and or we were not able to reproduce.

Somehow down the road a TSB comes out for that "normal issue" or I have to walk them through step by step how to replicate it multiple times, for example I had to explain multiple times all they needed to do is let my truck sit directly in the sun and the camera will fault out, no joke multiple trips, multiple times I had to explain that to the dealership before they listened and faulted out the camera.

The next time I go in for an oil change I will probably have them look at it just so its documented.

Ok, so I made a funny and now I’m being punished by my truck.
No lie, today on the 2nd half of my return journey from LOTW MN, I was just south of the Mackinaw Bridge headed up hill at 73 mph, turbo was at approximately 7-9 lbs and it began, a fluctuation that lasted about 10 seconds, then never repeated the rest of the 250 miles home. Woop woop was not heard, the truck just turned 12,000 miles.

Look under the hood if this happens to your new truck, a factory worker might not have tighten down a hose.
Don’t ask how I know.
