No, someone has to be the first to try it. It's pretty low cost to just try it; buy the shifter on eBay for under $100, plug it in, and see if it works. if it does, then worry about getting the 3D-printed adapter. If it doesn't, put it back on eBay and sell it.
I realize that these are sold for about 1/2 of new cost on eBay, is there any concern or known longevity issues with these 2nd hand button shifters that would make me consider just buying new?
Also...have you done a pictorial/tutorial of the proper removal of the old shifter? Think for those of us not want to tear up the trim and plastics trying to figure out the proper disassembly. And maybe you've done this, and I just missed seeing it.
I can't think of any. But if your piece of mind is worth an extra $125 buy a new one.

First one seemed to be 2mm too narrow and 3mm too long. My calipers aren't big enough to reach the center and there were a few ribs that I had eyeballed. Should have a second print for testing this afternoon.
