In NE OK, we just had a snow/sleet/rain event in 20 degree weather. I was driving home and the Front Park Aid Sensor and Camera were blocked, so the truck let me know. I was running in Slippery mode. I parked it in the garage for 30min or so and went for another trip. When I fired it up, I got a Service Engine Soon and Drive Mode Not available warnings. The drive modes were not there when I tried, nor could I put it in 4H or 4A, so I took my wife's Lincoln Nautilus.

Once I returned, I wiped the camera down and the front sensors. I got back in the truck and it was like nothing ever happened. Everything was back to normal. Could the front sensors and camera being blocked cause the truck to drop drive modes? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

Being dirty makes sense.... when powered up I suspect the truck CHECKS to make sure all sensors and cameras are working correctly. Or like a scale, starting off at ZERO.

Given the conditions I would say it’s a moisture not mixing with electronics problem. Living up here in the north I’ve had and seen issues like this before and newer vehicles are a lot more susceptible to this. It’s really bad if you have a heated garage and keep it warm during the cold winter months. The freeze/thaw cycle can wreak havoc on electric stuff. Obviously if it keeps doing it there’s an issue.

waiting 2 min with the driver door open to do a full reboot would be the first thing I would try in that situation

Truck reset itself, having drive modes disappear has nothing to do with the cameras or sensors. May have a faulty ABS sensor or moisture in a connector. A bad reading of wheel speed from any wheel will cause the controller to go into a limp mode.

I’m curious….What does an open door have to do with a reset?

The truck shuts stuff down, when you open the door and leave it open.

Interesting you mention this happened after some precipitation. More than a few times I've just driven my shit wager through a car wash and at least one of the sensors craps out. Dealing with a front end one that seems to want to stay crapped out.

I also have had random errors when front sensors get covered…worst was driving in sleet and truck kept throwing up errors like a roulette wheel, no rhyme or reason you could think just covering a sensor would effect, but after each storm just wiped off sensors and was like nothing ever happened.

At times when it is cold enough I'll get a sensor stuck on, usually a rear one. that's without snow or dirt or freezing anything, just really really cold. It doesn't happen all the time but usually the passenger side rear. I feel like it was be that sensor is in the coldest part of the garage because its almost always that one that sticks on.

The front end sensor...is it the one on the passenger side of the bumper? Mine has popped up a warning showing that is the culprit. I need to get under their and disconnect/connect and tape up the connections.

Yup, exactly that one: front passenger side in the corner. I was going to take it to the dealer because I don't have much experience with these sensors, so if you could perhaps let me know what you'll be looking for that would be a big help for me and I'd great appreciate it. Not sure if I need need to remove the shroud and grill before I can remove the bumper, or is it even needed?

No clue yet, but I will dig into it further and report back.
