2024 2.7L EcoBoost - Ticking sound.

Just purchased a new 2024 F-150 XLT super crew with the 5.5' bed between 100-200 miles as I recorded this. Has the 2.7L EcoBoost. Noticing this ticking noise following a remote start (cold engine) on the passenger side. Most noticeable after the idle drops a second time to the lowest idle. Stops at some point after driving. I don't hear it other than when the engine is cold. Dealer had not been able to identify the source yet. Initial response is drive it for 5k to allow the engine to break-in. It doesn't quite sound like any of the other sounds that I'm hearing between this forum and YouTube. Doesn't appear to match cam phasors or waste gates. Any ideas what it might be?

I responded to the YouTube video while my account was being approved, but I wanted to ask if you’ve found any information regarding this issue?
I have a 2018 f150 2.7 and it started making a similar noise after a failed shift (thanks 10r80) buried the tach into the red. Dealership keeps trying to say exhaust leak since I’ve had the 10r80 pulled apart twice and they had to remove the exhaust to drop it, but after seeing your video I’m not convinced. I’ll attach my video of what mine sounds like. It was taken from the passenger wheel well. Any information or input is appreciated!

Does sound like exactly the same slapping sort of sound. No cause identified on mine at this point. Currently, the dealer wants me to drive it to 5K miles to let the engine "break in" and come back if it's still doing it - of course not acceptable on a brand new truck. A couple of mechanic friends listening to the recording say it sounds like an exhaust manifold leak that closes once it heats up enough from either a loose, missing or broken bolt. Another notes they had a spark plug loosen and showed me a video that sounded identical. I've only had it for 7 days. Haven't had a good look myself yet.

Found this other video. A fair number of people noting something similar, but no confirmed cause. My dealer also noted it sounds like a lifter.

While I have no confirmation from my dealer at this point, here's another video describing this as advanced cam phaser failure. Sounds identical.

This should not sound like this, my 2023 bought brand new did not sound like this and still don't at 16k. The engine is the same in mine. That tapping don't sound good at all.

While I have no confirmation from my dealer at this point, here's another video describing this as advanced cam phaser failure. Sounds identical.

The big take away here is, if your vehicle is in question prime the system on cold start up. If the noise goes away it’s most likely a cam phaser/timing chain issue with lack of oil.

His suggestion at that point is to continue that procedure for all future cold starts to avoid further degradation of the cam phasers. I guess I’m curious what negative impact that would have elsewhere, ie: starter etc.

Seems to me people have noticed this symptom and are choosing to ignore it until it potentially gets worse in the future (maybe it does/maybe it doesn’t)? However, should these individuals be applying this cold soaked priming procedure for the next 150,000 miles???

My other question is how many dealerships are claiming this is just a “characteristic of the vehicle”? “Come back if the problem gets worse” That’s not a cheap job to roll the dice on once the vehicle is out of warranty and if it’s confirmed with the cold start priming procedure it seems pretty obvious what the problem is.

My 2.7L started making this exact same noise after I changed my oil. Only hear it during a cold start but once motor is warmed up the sound disappears. Truck only had 4000 miles on it when I did the first oil change and noise started. I used Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic so that could play a factor on why the noise started. Not entirely too sure.

Is the noise there with the AC off, not running. Sounds almost like the compressor cycling.
