Picking off driving light power under the hood

I'm installing aftermarket grill lights which are meant to be on when my driving lights are on. I don't have a plug/play harness so I have to pick off power from somewhere under the hood. Any suggestions where I can get a switched +12V signal that doesn't require me to remove half of the engine bay?

I'd recommend getting some of these 'add a fuse' or 'fuse splitter' leads. They can be pickup at most auto parts stores, or Amazon.

Then if you splice into Fuse F21 in your under hood fuse box, that will give you the switched power that your running lights are powered off of.

Got my hood LED strip installed last weekend. One thing I noticed. That Fuse 21 stays on when the headlamp switch is set to off. So the only way to turn them off will be to shutdown the engine. Just FYI.

Hey @12Lariat21 and @Severdog, I'm trying to run switched power under the hood with a fuse tap too, but I'm wondering how you routed the wire out of the fuse box. Would either or both of you have any photos of how you did this? Did you modify the cover or find another way?

I used a wood chisel and made a groove in the edge of the box and lid for the wire to exit. My wire was only 22awg, so at first I didn’t do anything but that fits really tight so it smashed the heck out of the wire.

I ended up carving the lid a little bit. I found a replacement for $18, so it was way cheaper if I screwed up than cutting the fuse box housing.
