Grill Active Shutter - Removing Fins?

Has anyone removed the fins from the active shutter on the 21+? I’m not looking to remove the entire grill active shutters, just need to remove one row of the fins.

Anyone has done it and have tips? Any CEL?

I removed my Intercooler louvers, but not the radiator ones.

I'm guessing that you could strategically remove a few and the truck would be completely unaware if you didn't alter the range of motion for the remaining louvers.

I was thinking it's the same thing, just bigger because it's the size for the radiator?

I'm just trying to see if the fins can be popped out (only need a row popped out; row 2 driver and passenger fin) that's about it! Going to attempt to do it tomorrow, just wanted to see if anyone has done this so I don't end up breaking it lol.

I do believe that they are flexible enough to get one out without damage. The sensor that is in play seems to be measuring the travel on the servo motor that moves the array. If you removed all of the louvers, then the "key" louver(s) that is also limiting the travel by hitting a designated stop, will allow the servo motor to travel farther than the sensor parameter expected. That does throw a code.
But the code on the Intercooler louver array is soft. Nothing on the instrument cluster at all. It IS visible on a scan tool that can see soft codes.
I have that code persistently. A PCM code, by the way. Easily ignored.

I wish I could assure you that the radiator array was identical, but you will be telling me shortly instead?

Appreciate the reply buddy! ? I will definitely try to get one out without damage, problem is I can’t see ir closely up-hand go see the mounting pops of how it pop ups but I believe it’s possible because the middle spade does move while it opens?

Perfect! Honestly don’t mind if the code (soft) is present but doesn’t show on the dash so that’s fine with me too!

I will! Yes I am, adding a LED bar behind a row of fins of that active shutter so I'd rather remove a row than the entire active shutter assembly tbh!

A lot of guys on the Tremor forums have removed the bottom 2 to run lights behind the grill.

Any chance if you know how easy it is and throws a CEL, etc? I can't seem to find their post either.

Unfortunately, I don't know. I checked in with one about the check engine light, I'll get back to you.

I went back and looked at a few posts, there are at least 4 or 5 who have done it, none of them have mentioned a CEL, but that doesn't mean anything.

I tore out the lower ones from the front of the truck just reaching in (wear gloves). Just warped them enough until they popped out of their holes. Not sure if the upper ones have the little combiner arm that syncs them up, I popped it off first on the intercooler ones.

Perfect thank you! Question, I do see the servo there. Now is it me or does the third row possibly that I need to remove, is connected to that servo?! Or is it just the first 2 top rows? ?
