So previously we thought that late 22's and 23's couldn't get the floor lights because of a different APIM. Has this changed ?

Seems like there was a shortage of LIN chips as the same chip that provides the lighting LIN bus can also power the APA sensors. It's not a surprise it was pulled from both devices.

It can be added though https://www.ebay.com/itm/165977741267

LED strips are easier to do. You can go full RGB with an aftermarket kit though for less, it's just not tied to the APIM. Plug and play is nice if it's that easy, if you can't get such to work though, might as well consider just making a custom setup.

i was told that there was no differences in any of the trucks as far as being able to add the ambient. Could be user error... i dont know. it took a little playing w forscan to get mine to work right. i think usually the modules dont have to be reset. Mine would not work until i did that. I was hesitant at first bc i had read in quite a few places that it wasnt doable on the 23 trucks. Mine works like its supposed to.

Strange because I did the mod including running the jumper buy couldn't get the ambient lighting to work. I was working with JHForman812 and we checked everything. Here's his post after trying for hours

Ok guys im gonna post this out there. People with late build 22s, and now 23s this mod may not work for you. The gentleman I was working with was not able to get the 12v out of the BCM nor the LIN. So anyone with a late build 22 or 23 that has purchased a harness from me, ill refund your money if you send me the harness back if we cant get this working. you can still add the media bin/glove box but cannot add the ambient lights in the floor/cup holder.

its definitely strange!! yours wouldnt work and it was aggrevating. I have a local 21 truck that worked then quit working after he went to ford for an update. Im hoping to get with him now that my sons baseball season is over and trouble shoot it a little further and see if we can figure out what happened. For your 22 im not sure why it wouldnt work. but now I have a 23 working so its strange.

Considering I have a very similar truck to @Jersey devil is there a way to add the jumper and make the forscan changes and test the lighting circuits to see if it will work prior to purchasing the lights and cup holder?

JHFirman812 was able to make me a harness in order to get the cup holder and media bin lights working even though the footwell lights won't. I also bought a couple more media bin lights thinking they look to be the same size as the footwell lights but they're only 2 wires and don't require a bus line. So, I'm going to see if I can just run a power and ground off the fuse box from a switched circuit and see if that will work as ambient lights.

That will work. More media pin lamps powered by the media bin. They're just 2 wire LEDS that respond to power. I use the media bin as a source to power the under-seat LEDs that are just 12v LEDs.

Any chance you can post link to the LED'S you used for that? Are they the same ones you used in the doors?

Thanks

You dont need anything from me to test/find out prior to doing the install. Make the forscan changes and use a voltmeter to measure the pins I called out on the connectors at the BCM for voltage. If you have voltage then you can do the install. Do you have the open connectors already?

This is what I used for all 8 positions in the doors and under the front seats facing towards the rear. You can cut them every 3 LEDs from the wire. So you can get lengths of 3, 6, 9 LEDs for instance.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J3FC7EO

This is what it looks like when cut. I used glue heatshrink to shore up the wire-to-LED area

In the door handle area for instance looking from the back side. Used VHB to securely attach them where they cannot be seen. (this was testing them, as seen from the back side of the door panel)

Having tapped into the illumination circuit of the seat, I was able to insert them (with proper female pins) into the factory LED plug area.

Thanks @JHForman812 ! That was a much easier install than I was expecting. The console bolts came out pretty easy thanks to your tip to back them out and run them back in when they started to get hard to turn. I think the in/out warmed up the bolts and thread locker to help with removal. No broken bolts and I was able to leave my center console fridge installed!

Finally added the lighted cupholder to the ambient light mod. Really pleased with the look on my lowly XLT 302a. Will say was a little nervous essentially dismantling the whole console. Happy to report I didn't snap any of the 6 bolts! Shutout to @JHForman812 who made this happen.

Where did you get the clear acrylic XLT inserts? Those look super sharp and would be a great Christmas idea.

I bought them from f150leds. They are a bit expensive for a couple pucks ($50 I think). They are nice as they have motion sensors and only turn on when dark - as a result they last a long time. On a charge I bought them when I thought I couldnt have ambient lighting. After installing ambient lighting not sure if I would pay for them again though glad I have them if that makes sense - without ambient lighting I think they are worth it as really brightens the interior. Hope that helps.
