I've got a 2022 F-150 Lariat and we've had a couple of winter events in west kentucky over the past few months and i've noticed a knocking sound coming from what sounds like the transfer case area when i'm in 4H or 4A and driving under light load and light throttle. If i accelerate or take it out of 4wd the knock goes away. Anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm going to bring it up to the service manager when i take it in next time but just trying to get some more information or experiences from other users before talking to the dealership. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I had an issue on my 2013 re: the IWE solenoid. Where it was located in engine bay, it was prone to getting water in it. It was typical at low speeds, but obvious it was coming from wheels not transfer case. Replacing the hubs was in order. Sound pretty early for this to be happening on such a new truck here is a quick article I had saved

Sounds like a rod knock.

Thank...i feel like it's a little early for that failure as well. Plus most of what i remember reading about the IWE was more of a grinding noise due to the hubs trying to engage rather than a knock.

It does sound like a rod knock but if it was internal to the engine it wouldn't matter whether it was in 4wd or not. The only time i hear it is when the transfer case is engaged.

. I’d be looking for a crack in the front case. Some on this site have had hairline cracks that leaked a very small amount of oil. I think they all were 2021 model trucks. Is yours a early 22 build date?
My 22 XLT Mar 28 build is very quiet and smooth in 4WD.

Yes mine was a very early build 2022...it was built in some of the first production runs for 2022 in November of 2021. I haven't noticed in spots on my drive way but will definitely get under there and take a look. Thanks for the heads up i hadn't seen any of the post about cracked cases on 2021's.

Good morning! Could you privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer so I can look into this knocking noise concern? Thank you!

I've already spoken with the service department at Expressway Ford in Mt Vernon Indiana. They are going to look over things when i take my truck in for service here pretty soon. They have been excellent with issues that i've had over the years and is why i continue to use them for service and continue to buy from them. If they can't find anything i will reach out through private message to see what the next step is.
