I don't think that's the explanation. Lol
I suspect it's a tolerance during assembly and a human being determines just how close it needs to be to move on to the next truck?

Having said that, I am very happy with the truck. It's been a little buggy in the software development, but has been flawless as a truck. :)
Apparently the tremors are aligned better. Who knows what the human alignment process is.

I labeled this picture for my basic steps but here is the very simple write up from memory.

Remove the glove box
pull the radio surround
pull the silver long trim
unscrew all the visible screws
pull the air vent
pull the button blank
loosen the radio / AC area screws to make more room
pull the rubbery surround of the old glove box to help pull it out
wiggle the new one in
replace the screws
install the new button
reinstall everything

"Remove the Glovebox?" Are you referring to the bottom glovebox? How do you get the radio surround and trim piecse off without damage? I've never tried this.

Yes bottom glove box first.

the trim pieces are all held on by clips, so you use a trim removal tool.

There is a good youtube video here.

That helps a LOT, Thank You

Is there any point in removing the screws on the top of the dash? Same question for the driver side console trim.

I did it. You don’t need to remove the lower glove box, just open it. The video is useful but don’t need to remove the top of the dash. Just the trim around the radio console. The trickiest part is taking off the radio console from the left side. Other than is easy, the video is spot on.

As it turned out, I didn't need to do it myself. The selling dealer did the work and it is perfect. The glove box even latches with a light touch unlike some I've seen on line.

Is this the correct part number for just the door?

Does anyone know the part number for the XL/XLT upper glovebox posted earlier in the thread? The sticker on the side with the part number must be the engineering part number since the ford dealer can’t find it

I think this part number is for the fascia trim only, not the glovebox door itself. I’m having a hard time finding the part number for the entire upper door assembly since my XL doesn’t have it. The one posted earlier in the thread seems to be the engineering part number

Having the door to the "napkin holder" as my salesman called it, I don't see any benefit over the open cubbie hole.

All numbers stamped on parts are engineering numbers that won't show up on dealer computer. You'll have to poke around online on parts diagrams to find the dash door parts.

I don't think they have one part number for the whole setup. You can check ebay or some of the other used spots for some.

Yeah I’ve been browsing for the past 6 months and haven’t seen anything. Granted I’m not checking very religiously
