Power tailgate won’t open beeps 3x

Do you have a tailgate step?
Mine was doing that the other day. Turns out the door for the tailgate step wasn't complexly latched. I pushed the door for the tailgate step until it clicked into place & the tailgate closed under it's own power,

Update
The plot thickens because now randomly the truck alarm will go off and i walk out to it and the tailgate is in the down position. The alarm has gone off 3x on different days and the tailgate is always in the down position. No one touched the truck or pressed the key fob. Seems like a faulty sensor tripping or possibly BCM module needing updating. Sounds like this will require a trip to the dealer because this doesn't seem normal.

I started taking apart the wire harness from the tailgate to the truck which is under the vehicle. When i opened it up it was all corroded so i tried to cleaned it up and put dielectric grease on it. I thought that would have fixed it but still had the same issue. Then i proceeded to take apart the tailgate and check the wire harness and sure enough more corrosion. Cleaned up 2 more spots and was hoping that cured it but still same issue. It did get better but still intermittent issue. I ended up selling the truck because i have another one order. Crossing my fingers the new truck doesn't have this issue from day 1.

On the remote you have to click it twice for it to work. Inside the truck you only have to hit the button once.

Thanks, I've been a long time Ford owner. They all operate the same (as far as how you do it), this one just doesn't operate consistently.

I have had my power tailgate beep and not open and then took a tiny step closer to it and it worked on the second attempt. According to the owners manual, the Fob in my pocket might have been more than 3 feet from the sensor?

I would think that applies only to using the proximity function with the button on the tailgate. When using the fob, it should work at any range the fob works at (or at least that's how all other Fords with power rear hatches and previous tailgate releases have worked).

For me, opening from the fob is simply intermittent if it will work or just beep at me. I've not found any variable that makes it more consistent either way.

Well, I have to take mine in for a recall on the trailer brake controller. My appointment is scheduled for 5/17. I told them about this issue so they can check it out at the same time. Hopefully my next post here will be that they have a solution.

Any update on this? My 2021 Lariat also does this three beeps when I open the tailgate using the button. Second press usually works.

Mine does this intermittently, as well. It hasn't bothered me enough to take it to a dealer just for that issue so I'll wait until something else pops up. Maybe I'll see if I can find a fuse for the power tailgate and see if cycling power would help. Not sure it'll help but it'll only waste a few minutes of my time to try.
