Honestly, that rust that's on the differential and axle is only unsightly, not a threat to the long-term life of the truck. But when I trade this 2021 in for the 2022 I might throw it up on the lift and paint it just to mess with folks on here. I'll post a shiny black pic everytime someone posts one of those rust pics and then ask them "are you kidding? Ford didn't do the 2021's like this?"

Good to know. I'm checking around for undercoating prices just for the heck of it. And if anyone knows of a spray-on rust remover that Amazon can send me in a day or two, feel free to share!

Not only the supply chain war, but the fact that apparently rust never sleeps, even on a brand new truck. 40 days at the dealer waiting for the infamous -V version, and I finally get it home and notice this. Keep in mind the Boise winter was very mild this year. No snow or much rain the last 40 days. Mild overnight temps too.
Service Dept. said they'll always be "surface rust" unless you get it undercoated, which apparently I need to do now. Are there any decent do-it-yourself options or is it better to take it to a specialist?

At least the coolant isn't leaking anymore.

We are very humid down here in Alabama and I had surface rust the 1st week. Saw that this has been a complaint since the new 2021 design and Ford just says it's cosmetic. Surprised it is still happening to the 2022. I've watched a few Youtube videos of people applying various DIY undercoats which I guess I will do if and when I get the truck back.

For those Blessed by the parts gods and have your truck back did the dealer or Ford give you anything as compensation? I have lost over a month in with all the trials like data and sirius xm. The tires are probably developing a flat spot. I also had to pickup my toolbox from my truck the other day and they had what looked like the cover to the broken part sitting on my leather seats!

I probably shouldn't make a big deal about it, but it's good to know there are options. There's at least one place here in Boise that specializes in undercoating, so I will most likely end up doing that.

To answer your question, I thought about what a good level of compensation would be. I looked at a few accessories but most weren't even available. I still have a free month of Sirius/XM, so I'm OK with that. I had my eye on one of the clear protective packages for the front and sides. The 3A complete package is around $2,300 and I knew there was no way my dealer would comp me the whole thing, so I just asked the sales manager what was the best he could do for me considering this parts nightmare and he ended up giving me almost 50% off, so I got the whole thing for $1,195. You can't even tell the protective layer is on there unless you eyeball it real close. I think it's worth it in the long run to protect the paint. Other than that, they washed it and did a little interior detail work and filled the tank. I'll take the win and move on.

Don't bother removing the rust, just spray it with some Rust-Oleum® rust reformer and then some of their Enamel spray and move on. That's what I will be doing when I have two hours of free time in the next 20 months.

Ford covered my April payment. which is a good chunk of change considering i did 36mos 0%apr.

I will be asking for much much more than that before this is over.

Called for a parts status this AM. 163 on backorder, 24 to be shipped out today.

I'm down to the Min level now in the reservoir and will be going in to the service dept to get topped off and get a jug of coolant. I've notice the leak while being parked overnight has slowed considerably, probably because I've not been using the heater, just the heated seats and steering wheel. Maybe??
Since you're one of the kings of spreadsheets, how about one for this thread? :ROFLMAO:

Sure - I keep coming back to check on the coolant issue and now I've got a "trailer brake warning - see manual" (the morning after driving it home in the rain). What would you want to track? Just this issue or others as well?

Yeah, maybe date first informing dealer of leak, when part was ordered, which part, -v or -w, when part arrived, when installed, did it work? Something like that. Maybe current back order status if you can get it.

You know about the trailer brake module software recall, right?

Thanks!

For another data point, I verified with my customer care guy and he said I have the W part number on order. Crew Cab 5.5ft bed.

Just remembered one of my cousins a time or two removed is a parts manager at a Ford dealer, gonna give him a call and see what data he has

I had read about the trailer brake recall, but there's nothing on my FordPass app.
