Thats great, I was offered a cash gift certificate on week 2, then they said at week 6 they would start making my payments, then came to me with the same offer you have received about trading it in if it went passed six weeks, but I told them they had to replace with exact same in kind truck.
I am glad that I now don't have to go through that. I am very happy to tell all you guys on this forum, that after all my complaining, I got my truck back yesterday at 5pm. My dealer has been very good to deal with, although I didn't buy the truck there, I have bought one other there, I will continue to support and refer people there. Since I have been in the same situation as many of you, I will sincerely say I hope you all get your trucks back or get a fair deal in the end.
So, did you get the heat exchanger part replaced?

For anyone interested, here's a comparison of the ICE cooling loop for a (non-hybrid) EcoBoost:

Thanks much for these diagrams. And like your thinking on a bypass.

May be one of those things a PB owner needs to be able to do if you get off roading. Despit the defective part do you think this is a robust design?

My own personal opinion is that it's already proved to NOT be a very robust design. But that's likely to be addressed, so it's not my personal concern. Rather it is one example of addressing an issue that in my opinion only exists because of the intense pressure manufacturers are under to deliver EPA fuel mileage numbers as optimistic as possible.

Or put another way, if Ford decided that providing heat to the cabin ASAP was so important, they could simply program the ICE to run more if the passenger was demanding cabin heat at some environmental threshold.
That way only the customers choices determined the ICE demands on a coldstart in frigid temperatures, rather than the ridiculously complex and unique design of the exhaust heat exchanger loop.

This issue wouldn't even exist. The Powerboost exhaust system would be the same as the 3.5 Ecoboost exhaust.

Called for a parts status this AM. 163 on backorder, 24 to be shipped out today.

I'm down to the Min level now in the reservoir and will be going in to the service dept to get topped off and get a jug of coolant. I've notice the leak while being parked overnight has slowed considerably, probably because I've not been using the heater, just the heated seats and steering wheel. Maybe??

I have a long update to share later, but for now, I have actual paperwork from my dealer's part's dept (where I spent 30 minutes in person on Saturday) that confirms the 163 back-order number. It also shows 101 in transit to packager and "next month demand" at 39.

What is next month demand? The amount they expect to need or still be on backorder next month? Ideally the 101 in transit makes a nice dent in the 163 soon…

Yes, I would imagine it's Ford's estimate on what they expect the demand to be.

More fun facts for you. According to my parts guy, Ford never updated their computers with the updated part number until sometime around March 10th, which is when my dealer ordered ML3Z-5A212-V. I opened my case with Ford on 2/24 and apparently the part that was ordered was the original ML3Z-5A212-S. So, I lost 2 full weeks waiting for a part that no longer existed. The clocks starts for me on March 10th. My $80,000 truck is being held hostage for a part that costs $562. Swell.

I am now concerned that my dealer is also looking for an older part. The Part number they gave me last week is ML3Z5A212W. I just searched and found parts.lakelandford.com listed my part number so I called to see if they had any in stock knowing it was a long shot. Of course they didn't and the guy on the phone looked up when they would be available and said the same thing my dealer is saying they are backordered and no idea when they will come in. He did read on his screen that it's a Nationwide backorder due to capacity issues that is being resolved. So whatever that means. I keep forgetting that I actually purchased a truck because I have been driving this Ford Edge for so long. I have also tried many times to open a ticket with Ford Directly but the number they gave me requires an extension. Then the extension they gave me says it is not recognized. Next they gave me an email address to open the ticket at Ford and that person gave me the exact same phone number and extension that does not work! Does anyone have an extension they have used and worked? Maybe they would be able to start a ticket for me or transfer me to the correct person.

I did ask about the "W" version, and was told that stands for warranty, which didn't make sense to me. Bottom line though, is V is the replacement for S. W just sounds like an indicator and not a different part.

my ford dealer says the difference between the -W and -V replacement number might have to do with Trim/cabin size?

edit: 571 order requests now. im assuming thats the number of Powerboosts affected so far

Quick question to anyone who can answer. My KR PB truck with a 1/25 build day is still on the train from Dearborn about halfway to the dealer in PA after a chip hold. When I take delivery, can I see the part number for this piece from under the truck? I'd like to see if I already have the updated part or a possible future leaking problem.
TIA.

Looks like I’ll be able to let you know for sure in a few hours. The V part came in yesterday and they are installing today. I also have a 22 Lariat SCREW. My original part number ended in S. I’ve already posted the picture in a previous entry of the official replacement designation as being V.

Here we go........3rd and goal....just punched it in for a touchdown after 37 days. Repairs complete!
Allow me to quote my service rep: "That damn valve on there is made of plastic. It was broken causing the leak. Silly design."

And it was the -V part? not the -W?

Is the new part a different design? ie no plastic?
