I've drilled a small hole in the lowest part of the muffler on every vehicle I've owned in the past 50 years. Drainage hole insures there is no water in the muffler. Have you observed some vehicles pouring a lot of condensation from their exhaust pipe when pulling away from a stop light? This tiny hole will prevent that. I've never had to replace a muffler. I can't believe I just revealed my age.Mine does this also. Not sure if I was being bullshitted but the dealer told me they all do this - its where the muffler is supposed to drain.
