From Ford’s CEO during today’s earnings call:

Separately, Farley on Wednesday said Ford would delay an over-the-air rollout of its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system from this year until the first quarter of next year. He said the delay is to simplify the technology, which is viewed as a new recurring revenue opportunity and a way for Ford to catch up with other systems from competitors such as GM and Tesla.

Yep it is BS.
I’m still learning about this option, I‘m coming from GM and just ordered a 2022 Lariat.
From what I gather here, all these folks paid for the option with the promise of an update that they never got. Not the way to treat your customers.
Hopefully the update isn’t going to take until next year.

Not exactly. People who don't have it still owe another $600 for the option. The price of the equipment was paid at the time of purchase, but not the price of the service. The newer vehicles we see equipped with BC from the factory have already paid for both.

Personally, I've been driving with my hands for 30+ years. It's not an inconvenience for me to keep doing so for several more months.

Yes, I do understand the later vehicles come with Bluecruise activated and the option price was increased to cover the subscription cost.
However, the people that were swayed in their decision to buy an F150 early because of that technology and are willing to pay for it are left standing on the sidelines while watching the later trucks roll off the line with Bluecruise activated.
I’m not understanding how Ford decided the early trucks that have the capability to use Bluecruise will have to wait.
I see where Ford’s CEO stated that he sees Bluecruise as a “recurring revenue opportunity“. I’ve seen quite a few folks balking at the cost per year. Maybe Ford is rethinking the existing subscription model and is waiting to roll out a less expensive plan for the new year?

People have their own reason for wanting an option, I too have been driving for 30+ years but make a trip from Austin to Dallas every weekend so this feature was one of the main reasons for purchasing this vehicle. It was purchased under the statement still listed under the blue cruise services " BlueCruise functionality expected 3rd quarter 2021CY ". This to me is deceptive, I get there are changes made but there should be an option to go to the dealer to have it installed if it is too hard for Ford to do the OTA.

I'm going in for my 10k service tomorrow and am going to ask if the dealership can install it. For the record I'm not optimistic, but you don't get what you don't ask for.

Wish me luck!

This is just my guess on the release delay. It costs Ford extra for the OTA's with AT&T. The amount of data they send, they have to pay for. They may be trying to reduce the amount of data they are sending in the OTA's to reduce costs....and/or they are delaying a Q4 cost until Q1 of next year.... it's all about the money!

I picked up my new truck today and I have BlueCrusie on the windows sticker. Driving home I set the cruise and it took over in handsfree mode. Awesome! As mentioned by others, I think if you have BlueCruise on the window sticker it is already available and just needs to be activated using the App, but if you just have the CoPilot Active 2.0 Prep line item, you need to wait for the OTA update.

LOL must be Ford only bought the 2G data plan instead of the unlimited plan.

Class action coming your way Ford. People paid good money and for it not to be available for over a year is going to cost you. It’s a slam dunk according to one firm I spoke with today especially since vehicles are rolling off lots today with the software active.
