Hello all

I’m building my first ever F150 and have been curious as to what veteran truck and F150 owners would recommend as must haves when building from factory

Currently have a wrangler and I just need something bigger and not a garbage can on the road

Right now I’m going with:

XLT with high package sport appearance
V8
Towing/360 camera
I want a cover (but I can’t decide which one)

I am going to get dealer installed leather and heated/cooled seats because XLT doesn’t have that option

What else would you say you must have?

36 gallon tank is incredibly nice to have. Lane centering is also super nice if you do much highway driving.

Trailer Tow Mirrors and the folding Interior Work Surface. These two items were invaluable to us on a 3500 mile back country/park tour in September.

What is your intended use?
Mostly city?
Mostly highway?towing? how much?
carrying? and what?
Etc.
I have a lot of "must haves" ordered on my truck but many are specific to what I will use the truck for.
For me adaptive cruise is very convenient.
4WD is an absolute must for me.

Build sounds great, If I could re order I would add Assist 2.0 (w/adaptive cruise) and bigger gas tank.
I’m also a fan of the rubber bed mat and roll up cover so you don’t lose bed space.

Thank you all for the replies. Mostly all road/highway driving. Currently live in VA but plan on moving to Florida or South Texas in the future so not sure if I need 4x4 now...

Is the roll up cover the OEM one, the Tonneau platinum roll-up?

This is the cover I would have gone with if my dealer didn’t throw one on for me. I have the lo-pro Ford cover (I believe rebranded Teuxedo) and it works fine. Same single sided locking mechanism and it’s nice and tight. Just not sure how well it will hold up to fading. Thinking the woven would do better? I think you can find em on Amazon for cheaper.

36 gallon tank and as goofy as it sounds the tailgate step. I forked out for the tailgate package just to get the step cause I use it as a chair when I’m changing shoes (on the weekends when I play golf, fly fishing, etc…) I use it all the time.

If it was me, I would go for the 3.5L EcoBoost over the V8. It‘s a much more powerful and efficient engine as well as more fun when you want to play with all of the oomph it has.

It's really going to depend on what you want. I plan on towing, but only tow within 2 hours of my house and less than 5000 lbs. I stepped up to the Lariat to get some of the features I wanted.

My must haves:
Tow Mirrors
Adaptive cruise
Cooled seats
Automatic climate control
Push button start
4x2
Locking rear diff
5.0
Android auto
60/40/60 front bench seat

What I didn't want:
Tailgate step
36 gallon tank
Sunroof
Work surface

After having a truck with the tailgate step, I will not ever buy another truck without the step.

There are a couple must haves for me.

adaptive cruise. The lane centering is nice but the adaptive cruise is a must with all the traffic in my area.

super crew cab. No question, get the bigone.

towing mirrors. make sure you get them with the drivers side auto dimming.

hard bed cover. Buy one aftermarket but this is critical for storage and security

36 gallon tank. Just get it and you will thank everyone.

360 degree camera. Critical for parking

I think the 360 camera, and the 7.2kW generator are must haves for me.

The camera for parking. It is so much easier, even for people who have had trucks their whole lives.

List is here

Also, I put this list together as a list of MUST HAVES for every pickup truck owner. The list is designed for spouses to figure out what they may be able to get their hubbies for Xmas (or wives), and also designed for firat truck owners, so they can have an idea of how to begin (keyword begin) getting the most out of their new capability.

I really think you'll find it useful. As for factory options, like I said, 360 camera and generator for me.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone! I think I am going to add the 36 gallon tank for sure

I do have a question though, is the Tow Package a necessity?

I have never had to tow before but wife and I want to tow buy and tow 2 jet skiis. Nothing more than that

Is that package worth it still?
