Many thanks. Can't believe we need to do this on a modern vehicle that costs as much as it does (sticker on mine was $93.6K!!!). As if no Ford employee was able to catch this.

Yep! 83k MSRP on mine and I asked the dealer to look at that since they were doing regular maintenance. He said they compared it to the others on the lot and they all fell so they said it was normal. I pulled that piece of trim off (under it), pulled the spring's legs up with needle nose pliers and shoved 2 nickels under each one. Now it stays up as if my truck was on Viagra.

Still ridiculous that they haven't addressed this nonsense.

I don’t believe the assembly line employee has much to do with the spring design specs. My 2021 job1 stays open.

Mine did not. Took the truck in a couple of weeks ago to address windshield wiper recalls and brought the console to their attention. Not sure what was done, but it stays open now.
The truck just eclipsed the 36,000 mark this morning

I think non work console lids are less susceptible to this problem being they're lighter in weight. They respond better to the nickel trick. With four nickels my lid stays up, but it does not spring up on its own. This isn't a build quality issue. It's a design issue. The design being used is built just fine.

My workforce surface slams shut hard Like a guillotine! A little kid could easily lose a finger. I'll give the quad nickels a try.

Mine has 4 nickels and it'll stay up. It won't spring up but will stay up if I fully open it.
I might have to try 6 nickels. LOL

Tip: I wrapped the nickels with some scotch tape to hold them together, so they would slip apart when installing them. Or use electrical tape. They'll be hidden anyway.

There seems to be a gas shock mod for everything else but the console top! If they did try to "fix it" they'd probably use some BS like Canon printers do with that springy left clip thing and then the plastic end breaks off and doesn't hold it up anymore.
