Did a family trip up to Colorado and spent two days on the trails up to Crystal Lake/Mohawk Lake. Some pretty legit rock crawling for a stock truck and it did awesome (didn't miss the Raptor I traded in for this). Other than removing that silly front airdam, 35" KO2s and swapping the factory fixed running boards for AMP powersteps (increases ground clearance), truck is bone stock.

I just did the same, traded my 18 Raptor for a Lariat PB did you change your wheels when you put the 35s on? I am thinking of the same thing as I think the stock tires look too small.

My truck had the optional 20" wheels on it and I kept it. 285x65x20 KO2s and they fill up the wheel wells nicely. I added 1.25" spacers just to the rears, as the rears felt too tucked to me.

I had a 17 Raptor and loved the OEM KO2s they come with. Such a good all around street/mud/rock/snow tire.

I keep debating 275/65r20 vs 285/65r20 and your pics lean me to the larger tire. How much MPG impact have you felt since you did the tires ? Also, did you change your spare too ?

I have not noticed any impact to my MPG. My best guess is because 285 is still a pretty narrow tire for the truck (Raptors come with 315s for example) and not leveling/keeping the factory rake has a lot to do with it. I also run the KO2s at 48 mpg cold.

I would definitely go with 285s; in fact, I know some guys have done 295x65x20 and it still fits so 285 would be ideal middle ground.

Stock spare or upsized?
Stock spare. Contrary to what most guys think, you can easily run a smaller tire on one end of the axle compared to the other end, as long as you don't lock the axle and its for short periods. I don't see the reason to add cost/weight to the spare so I typically leave the spare alone except to check tire pressure every year.

Makes sense for sure unloaded. My only concern would be towing and maybe wanting to put on a LT tire just in case the need arises. Although not sure if it's really needed if limping ~50miles if a flat occurs.

If you are towing and it really came down to it, you can always pull one of the fronts back to the rear axle and mount the smaller spare up front. I am personally very comfortable with the risks/scenarios of leaving the spare stock.

Makes perfect sense! Appreciate the insight! ??

@Sentinel1201 -

I'm having the same internal debate on KO2 tire sizes as @UGADawg96. I just checked on TireTrack and confirmed that those are 34.5" diameter, nominally 35" tires. I was glad to see that those larger 61 lb KO2's are only 4 lbs heavier than those awful 33" 57 lb Hankooks.

A few related Questions, if I may ask you:

Q1: Did you buy the FX4 Package for your rig?

Q2: Did you add a Leveling Kit? If so, size and brand?

Q3: Even when articulating off-road, you haven't experienced any rubbing issues?

Q4: Did you remove the entire air dam or only the assembly that extends down at highway speeds?

Given that your airdam is removed (partially?), the tires are a bit heavier and taller, there is at least some loss of MPG. But it definitely sounds like its well worth the price - especially since its still far better than your old Raptor was getting!

Thank you!

Yes, the 285x65x20s are technically 34.6" and 295x65x20 are 35.1"
Tire Size Comparison

I do not have the FX4

No leveling kit.

No rubbing in fronts. The driver rear tire rubbed the pointy edge of the wheel well in front of the tire once under full articulation. I plan to dremel off the pointy edge before going wheeling again.

Removed entire airdam. You can unbolt the part that electronically extends down, but you have to dremel off the fixed portion. There is a good thread on here with instructions.

Like I said above, I have not noticed a dip in MPG after going to KO2s. I only had 1k miles or so on truck before I went to the bigger tires, so it could be that after break-in my mpg has improved but the tires have offset that improvement. More likely is my hypothesis that mpg loss is more a function of lift/level than tire weight. Running higher PSI (48-50) will offset some of the weight gain of the larger tire also.

Is that an F80 I spy? Good taste, I've got an '18.

I put 275/65/20 Open Country AT3s on my truck. Probably could've gone a hair bigger but didn't want any rubbing issues and wasn't much data to go on back in January.

I'm from CO... any scratching on the sides of your truck? I upgraded from a Jeep Grand Cherokee and this F150 is quite a bit bigger, and there were some "tight" trails even in the Jeep.
