NOT A POWERBOOST

It was 100 to 104 in tyler
i had about 5 or so stop lights to sit through and each one was around a minute or maybe a bit more
Had ac on 61F, fan on 6 and seats on 3
when i would stop at the light the engine felt like it was missing or the transmission was not disengaging the tq converter or something and it felt like it was lugging, similar to what it does at times at 60 and hangs in 9th too long before it downshifts at light throttle
i know engine fans were on HIGH as you could hear them
if i put truck in neutral it idled very smooth and no weird vibs or the feeling it was still in gear, like a standard shift and you the ease clutch out a bit to hold it

on the main stretch the red lights are set at 45 mph , so i managed to go nearly 7 miles and never stopped, got to 35 a few times but didn't have to stop, then i got caught a 5 or so. on return route i had about 8 and all did the same thing
i had never noticed this behavior before or last year when it was over 100 outside

engine and trans temps were normal

any-who we had a great lunch/dinner

Me too, I got nothing. Just the basics. Fuel pressure, bad coil, ect.

yup its never done anything like this
i figure the HEAT, humidity and trying to keep up enough volts to run the fans, ac and high cabin fan, had it acting weird
i did get a deep sleep alert last night, as i had not driven it since last monday.

V8 or V6?

Did you try different drive modes, or just touching the throttle a little to bring RPMs up..?

Well if doesn't do it when you have it Neutral, it's almost gotta be transmission related. I wouldn't think the heat would have that much to do with it, as I have had mine 'warmer' than normal towing my camper around, and have had no issues.

Without the issue being 'active' not sure a dealer will help out much...they may check and see if there is any updates for transmission controller...or something. It would at least be worth wile to get in and documented that you are having an issue, so there is a paper trail in the event it returns or gets worse...

He has the 3.5 EcoBoost. You know this is exactly what my 2007 Expedition 5.4L 3V did when the #7 coil and spark plug went bad. It would shake and lug at idle in gear, then smooth out with some throttle. It would also smooth out in neutral with no load on the engine. I think you are dealing with an intermittent misfire. I took it to the shop thinking it was transmission related and that’s what they found (the bad coil), after the hooked it up and read live data. You could see the wild misfire count on that cylinder as soon as they put it into drive with some load.

I would think the ECM would detect a significant cylinder misfire and throw a code with check engine light. My 06 BMW does, so I would expect modern engine management to be able to do that. Just my .02.

i had it in 4A
i ran forscan this morning no issues or dtcs

i did not try to bump throttle while it was in gear, i just put it in neutral and idle stayed right at the 7-750 rpm
in gear it seemed to stay in same range
this morning on way to grocery store i had 3 stop signs and no lights but nothing was out of ordinary, everything ran fine, even sync booted on time and never dumped pandora

my mind is going back to the high outside temps and truck trying to make cold air in truck.
and at speeds above 65 it felt sluggish in power, and a few times ran boost up over half the gauge
very high humidity and high temps probably was driving ecm to deal with alot of issues,
i bet inlet temps at air filter was over 120 as we were on hot squishy asphalt

but still 103 to 104 is not as hot as last summer where we had 109 and 111

Ford sets the misfire count incredibly high to trigger a CEL, unless your mirrors are shaking off the truck it will not trigger a CEL

Do you know if it sets a code, just no CEL? Or is the misfire count persistent that can be seen with a scanner, thinking this would be something a shop could see?

forscan indicated no dtcs
i didnt go looking for mis fires as the data log only pulls information while truck is running

if it does it again
i will take it in.

seemed weird as why i brought it up.
i had 1/4 of fuel as well, maybe fuel was HOT, and inlets temps were hot , or ac was at max demand duty so it was lugging engine during the idle????

Do you run 91/93 or do you run 87?

Fact of the matter On that is that at super high ambients, the trucks going to pull timing on 87. Maybe something like that was going on. Only other thing I can think of is if the fans were truly at max speed you were feeling secondary vibrations from those. They are quite powerful!
