The WDH use is not only for the weight on the rear axle of the towing vehicule. It’s also helps for the weight distribution between the rear and front axle of the towing truck plus balancing the weight on the trailer axle, thus the term Weight Distribution Hitch . If the front axle becomes too light, you will have driving issues. Just my 2 cents from 15 years of towing.

I want to chime in only to support the second post. The weight isn't the issue, sway is. My Equalizer saved my bacon pulling a 2500# trailer on a 2 lane highway north of Denton. 65 was too fast for a paved road that was basically slaloms. It didn't dawn on me to slow down until I felt the back end start to come loose. I'll never know, but I think I might've wound up in the ditch had I been connected at a single point.

The weight isn't the issue.
