Were you able to locate a broken wire, and find what was wrong? I just did the same exact thing, but my tailgate actuator went out instead. I also ended up using the lower grommet when I couldn’t get a fish stick through the upper one also. I have an appt at the dealership, but it isn’t until Jan 26, 26 and my warranty will likely be up by then.
Yes, though in my case is was a blown fuse (F212) to the aux battery the PowerBoost models have, see my post here.

I don't think power for the tailgate actuator runs through here, I'd check the RGTM fuse, which is F37 in the 2021 service manual I have.

Also - I'm not a warranty expert, but in my experience as long as the issue is documented as a problem before the warranty expiration, it should be covered under warranty. I'd make sure you have some kind of written documentation of the issue, somewhere.
