I have had a bunch of vehicles with automatic trannies over my 74 years, but I have never had one that allows the truck to roll as much as this 2021 does when you put it in park and take your foot off the brake. I admit I have no knowledge of how these transmissions work, but that much "slop" just does not seem right. Does your truck roll a great amount or do I have a "sloppy" trannie?

I think our trucks are just getting to be pretty heavy. I've gotten into the habit of activating my parking break everytime I park, no matter where. And I put them on before I put my truck into Park. Eliminates the slop, takes the pressure off of the transmission.

My 2017 Ford Edge does the same thing and it has the 6F50 trans. I use the E-brake all the time also. Just hand washing it makes it roll around a lot.

Rolls almost exactly the same amount as my wife’s acura but it is more than my previous vehicle (2011 Escape). My guess is these higher geared transmissions have more distance in a rotation to the locking pin.

I park in the garage with only an inch or two on either side so parking brake is mandatory for the truck.

Well aware that the park brake will prevent the movement. My Pacifica has the option to have it auto set when you shift into park. But, still, as stated this truck is the one that has the most movement of anything in the past. Just checking with everyone to see if something is out of adjustment with this trannie. Guess that is the way they build them now days.

I have noticed the same sloppiness (roll) with my truck. It has, on its own, put the park bake on for me. I noticed that if I stop the truck but don't have the brake petal pressed hard enough, and shift into park, the truck will turn on the parking brake. I have looked through the manual and can't find any mention if this is suppose to happen or not.

Interesting. I will have to give that a try. I do know if you set the park brake, have the shifter in drive, open the door, and start to leave the truck, it will shift into park.

I have seen that happen. Wonder what other little features are going to show up, that are not in the manual..lol
