I need some information on the transfer in my truck. I have a 2021 5.0 XLT CCSB the current transfer case part number is ML34 - 7A195 - AE. But when I ask the parts department at my local dealership what is supposed to be in there they gave me part ML34 - 7A195 - AJ. The technician in the service department said the current one is the right one. When I look up the part number for the one that in there now come up for a 3.5 power boost. The only reason why I am asking is because I used my 4WD for the first time last week due to a snow storm after buying it CPO from the same dealership that looked at it 5 months ago. The whole time it was in 4wd my transmission was shift weird and I tried to back into my driveway and the front wasn’t working so I had to mess with it until the 4wd kinda worked. But the dealership looked at and said there was nothing wrong with 4wd system but the transmission does have a hard up shift between 3-5 and it gets worse in 4wd. All I want to know is the technician right about the transfer case or was there a mixup at the factory. I have attached a picture of what transfer case I have, what I have found about the transfer, and what the invoice from the parts department says it should have.

What's in that picture is a differential, an axle, not a transfer case. If you drove on paved roads in 4WD for months you have likely ruined the transfer case or one of the axles. What happens is that there are slight differences between wheel size. On a paved road this will wind up the gears until they begin eating into each other. If done long enough they can grind until there's nothing left. What I find odd is that there is a warning that comes up on the dashboard telling you that the system has not shifted out of 4WD. My bet is you've destroyed the transfer case.

If the transfer case is shot, it might be a good time to do a 4a swap. You have to buy a replacement anyhow, so why not pick up a good salvaged 4a TC.

Good afternoon. I would like to see what I can do to assist with your transfer case concerns. To get things started, can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you have been working with?
