If I upgrade my hitch and keep the standard tow receiver that came on my 2021 F150 Powerboost will I get better towing capacity or should I change the receiver as well?

Your truck's rated towing capacity is a function of many things and no mods will change that.

Curious, what's the sticker rating for your receiver (the sticker on the receiver itself) which should never be confused or construed as your truck's rated towing capacity?

What gross trailer and tongue weight are you trying to tow that exceeds the lower of either your receiver or your truck's rated towing capacity?

Your trucks reciever hitch is rated for itself. Its built for ratings to comply with its sticker...it has no authority over what trucks tow rating is.

I am looking at getting an overland camper or small bumper pull.

Based on that pic, your receiver can handle all that your truck is rated to tow (and all that's prudent to tow), IMO.

Use a WDH (Weight Distributing Hitch) as appropriate.

Refer to the attached 2021 document to see the trailer limits for your truck as equipped (tip: use pdf search term "hybrid", and don't fail to read the footnotes).

Do not exceed the total payload number on the yellow sticker in your driver's door frame (weight of all occupants, cargo, aftermarket add-ons, and actual trailer tongue weight).

Take 13% of your trailers GVWR and that will be your max tongue weight on a travel trailer.

Post a photo of your driver door yellow sticker that indicates your max cargo capacity.

I did a fair amount of research on this issue. I have an 8000 lb boat and was concerned about a wdh with my trailers surge brakes. A highly respected hitch installer in the Salt Lake area informed me that upgrading the receiver is impractical due to it also supporting the bumper assembly. Curt hitch had one option that added an additional hitch below the existing one. I said no thanks to that ugly option. I went with the wdh and the surge brakes worked as they should.

Your powerboost comes with the 12k rated hitch standard when towing w/ a WDH.

I tried to upgrade to a class IV hitch and ran into the same issue. I had expected all of the metal fabrication to be done by the time they sent me the hitch, but that wasn't the case. Return shipping on a trailer hitch isn't cheap.
