Ok, looking at this design I can't be the only person this has happened to.
First part... Yes... Damnit I messed up! Not a great excuse but, I was completely exhausted and starving at the time.
No to the point - I hit my well cap with my 3 well old Tremor last week while backing up to the right at about 2 mph. It impacted my running board and the lower portion of my driver's side door. The door scratch isn't really that bad there is a slight crease which may cause me to have to replace the outer skin or the door not sure if the dam will come out. As for the running board, the lower mounting points on the front end of the running board pulled through the inner rocker mounting locations.
After looking this over extensively, and doing some research to find out that these bolts are only torqued to 16 foot pounds, I'm left with the thought that this is an easily damaged area.
So I've attached some pictures of the damage, I'd also like to note that the running board brackets, stock running board brackets... Have two mounting holes in the upper location. Through no thinking that seems to make any sense whatsoever, four chooses to only use one of the holes! So the uppermost bracket, which is probably the load-bearing portion of this, is only held on with one bolt (stud) that is pre-installed in the vehicle both front and rear. You'd have to see it to believe it, but I'll leave pictures just so you can see it too.
This brings me too now question, has this happened to anybody else? And if so what was your fix? I've taken it to a reputable repair shop, they are planning on replacing my driver side door completely and then blending the paint. But as for the running board mounting locations, there's even been some chatter about possibly replacing my entire inner rocker. I see no logical reason to replace the entire in a rocker to fix two running board mounting points. And I definitely don't want my less than one month old truck skinned down just to fix a mounting point for a running board. I have some ideas of my own, but I find this form comes up with some really good stuff. So help a brother out point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
