Yep, I know. I have the scales in my truck and use it whenever I tow.

Def agree it could be more user friendly and intuitive. Hoping that could be part of an OTA?

I've never been over payload though. So curious what happens if you over load. Just figured if there was an 'error message' that popped up when over loaded it could pop up on the dash like other warning messages.
I can confirm it doesn't show any error messages when overloaded. ;)

Would have thought the load of sod to be closer to 2500-3K. When I was looking to get a pallet the place I went to said I'd need a trailer since it was close to 3K pounds for 500 sqft. How many sqft is that that it came out to 1990 pounds?
This was a deal the place gave me since they sold part of the pallet it was 400 square feet. So the math almost works out exactly 4/5*2500 is 2000!

Just curious if you have the OnBoard scales?

I'm wondering what happens when you exceed payload. Does a warning just pop up on the dash and you just hit 'OK' on the steering wheel to clear the message and continue on? Or, will the message stay displayed until you removed some weight from the bed?
I do not have them but that sounds really cool, I wonder if it can be added after the fact with hardware and FORSCAN

I thought payload accounted for a full tank of gas and a 150lb passenger. I could be wrong though. My memory isn't what it used to be.

edit: ford does not account for any passengers in their payload. You must count yourself and any other passengers.
I think that the confusion comes about because they include an allowance for a 150lb driver in the maximum towing capacity calculation. It would be nice if they were consistent, but that’s not the case.

It probably depends pretty significantly based upon moisture content. If it had rained just before they cut the sod, I could see it gaining ~40-50% extra weight beyond the “dry” sod weight.

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
Probably have less traffic light front/rear bounce if the load was in front of the rear axle. But then, you'd be looking at an headache rack to protect yourself.

Thats one load I'd use my Aluma 7816 for....... and get more than one load of sod.

With heavy loads in the bed the solution to porpoising is the use of adjustable front shocks. That way you can dial in more resistance with a load in the bed and then dial it back down the rest of the time. I did that with my 1-ton setup with a 3700 lb slide-in camper in the bed.

The problem with bouncing at the rear is in part the result of the springs being maxed out. My camper pickup had a 2700 lb payload rating but the AAM rear axle was rated at 11,000 lbs. I added Supersprings to gain 1400 more lbs of payload capacity. This greatly reduced truck sway with the camper in the bed.

Shocks are more correctly referred to as dampeners as that is what they do. They dampen the movement of the springs and do not increase the amount of load supported. That needs to be done with adding springs. That is what Ford does with the Max Payload option where a third spring is added to the leaf pack of the F-150.
