Probably just my bad luck, but perhaps others may run into this...
My truck ('22 PB) has a problem with the connection to the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module), resulting in a "Powertrain Malfunction" light and disabled drive mode selector. I knew the truck had a problem from the factory on delivery, but had it back into the dealer a couple days later to replace the connector which we thought resolved the problem. All was well until about the 500 mile mark, when the problem recurred and was persistent.
Took it back in to the dealer - the issue is that the truck is losing communications to the TCCM. The tech tried replacing the TCCM and also adjusting the pin fitment with no success. He can get it to communicate if things are adjusted just so, but then the slightest touch or vibration causes it to lose communications again. So the problem seems to be a fault in the wiring harness, likely a pinched wire. The TCCM is located in a confined space so he can't really track down exactly where the harness might be pinched.
So now the plan is to replace the harness which, most unfortunately, entails removing the dash - a pretty big job that really requires the skills of their best tech. It'll be awhile before he becomes available to tackle it, so no ETA yet on when it might be fixed, it's been in a couple weeks so far. I don't think Ford is going to end up making much of a profit on this truck at least...
I am lucky in one sense - at least the issue is reproducible. I can well imagine that a pinched wire or loose connector could be the cause of all sorts of "gremlins" that might pop up intermittently and be problematic to diagnose and fix... (Went through that nightmare with my wife's 2014 Fusion PHEV and eventually resolved _that_ problem by trading it in...)
And also lucky that I've be able get by without my truck so far - I'm in line for a loaner, but that's going to be a bit of a wait as well...
Take care,
OTM
