I have a 2121 PoweBoost XLT that does not have tailgate open warning. I'm wondering if anyone has added it or know how. I see it exists in some trim levels, maybe only with power tailgate? Thinking I can add a switch and tie it into the existing pin location, not sure if I would need to turn it on with FORSCAN or not.

Anyone have any insight?

After leaving my tailgate open 1 too many times.. I am now looking into this. There is a pin on Body Control Module Connector C2280E (34) for Tailgate ajar. But I haven't traced it yet to see if that wire goes back to any rear connectors on my Lariat.

There are some options in Forscan spreadsheet regarding Tailgate Ajar, but I haven't been able to find any confirmed information on 14th gen.

Subscribed. It's stunning that it isn't required by law. I'm actually considering drilling and installing an old style contact switch and dash light.

Based on the info I can find for the 13th gen, if it's the same in 14th, the Forscan change would be this:
Code:
VehicleDoorsPresent_Cfg_6 (VDPC)
726-34-02 **xx xxxx xx-- 00 = VDPC NOT_PRESENT 01 = VDPC PRESENT
I checked a random 2022 Lariat with Bed Utility package, it has this as 01, I have 00.

Normally closed or Normally Open for the switch appears to be controlled by:
Code:
DoorAjarSwitch_Cfg_6 (DASC)
726-32-02 **xx xxxx xx-- 00 = DASC NORMAL_CLOSED 01 = DASC NORMAL_OPEN
A quick test would be to enable door 6, and see if a tailgate ajar warning comes up.

Confirmed the Forscan change above sets the tailgate ajar warning. I haven't traced and tested the wiring, but pretty confident it will work. The NC/NO change also changed the behavior as expected.

Does it just turn the warning or does it function? Do we need to add a switch also?

Sorry yes, it will definitely require a switch. I was just testing that the Forscan change did in fact enable the warning. With Door6 enabled, pulling pin 34 to ground on C2280E (however it gets there) should clear the warning.

In this case, I enabled the warning, and BCM is expecting a Closed circuit to clear, but since I don't have a switch, it currently can only be open, so warning is set. Next couple days I'll try to test wiring side of things. Tough with toddlers

Very good information. Do you need the wiring information? I might be able to find that.

Potentially bad news. Comparing 13th gen and 14th gen wiring diagrams... 13th gen was a switch for tailgate ajar, 14th is part of Rear Gate Trunk Module. I'm not a module expert but I'm guessing won't be able to just switch that pin. May be able to switch it on the Rear module.

Ford F-150 Tailgate Warning add 1650635690677

That's the wiring diagram I'm working off of. I'm not sure if externally switching on Pin 28 and Pin 5 on the RGTM would trigger the correct status/communication.
