Same thing happened to me today. Driving 67 mph and meet a truck in the opposite lane going opposite direction. Hood popped up and giant red box warning showed up hood ajar.
Yeh it gets your attention that’s for sure

I watched my metal hood on 2012 RAM flatten out then spring back when an 18-wheeler came from the opposite direction on a 2-lane road in WY. It did not unlatch. I had a good tailwind, 40+ mph which meant the bow wave off his front end was well over 100 mph. Factor in my 75 mph speed and that was a powerful punch that shook the entire truck. The only damage was the engine bay light on the under-side of the hood was knocked off. I now move over to the right-hand shoulder and slow when those wind conditions are present and I meet a semi coming the other way. Looks like a habit I will have to keep when I get my new F150. Will check the latch and safety catch, also.

New Ford Performance hood pin kit. Required for all ford vehicles for their superior performance...or lack of proper assembly and adjustment...either way, these hood pins make your vehicle look like it is meant for the race track! (this is a joke, btw).

Is it time to install in-engine-compartment hood leash(es)? Figure we can make them long enough to allow the hood to get high enough to be able to unlatch a carabiner...

Gotta admit, that’s a hell of an idea!

In my case, the backup safety latch caught the hood when it popped up. So it did work as designed and didn’t fly all the way up and hit the windshield.

Hood pins or lanyards would work great for a backup to the backup though.
