I've been looking, but can't seem to locate the thread(s) on retrofitting the 2021 digital HVAC temp control to be used in a 2022+ MY (still looking....). As an offshoot of that search, I also started looking for the HVAC control through various / multiple Ford Parts websites. I looked for the Dash HVAC Temperature Control Panel for a '21 Platinum. All of the sites I visited reported the same results: There are 12 different parts to choose from, depending upon how your truck is equipped. What caught my attention is that two different part numbers have the exact same description:

ML3Z-19980-C
Description:
F-150. With atc. With heated rear window. With heated seats. With cooled seats. Without heated strg. wheel. Dual zone AC, with heated back window with heated/vented sts. 2021-23, without heated steering.

CCM-404
Description:
F-150. With atc. With heated rear window. With heated seats. With cooled seats. Without heated strg. wheel. Dual zone AC, with heated back window with heated/vented sts. 2021-23. without heated steering.

I assume (dangerous word....) that one of the descriptions is incorrect. I'm guessing that one of those actually supports a heated steering wheel rather than both of them not supporting it - but that's pure speculation. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Edit: Based on parts description, NONE of the 12 P/Ns listed supported a Heated Steering Wheel - and this is for a Platinum.

Just a thought.... the second part number being so short...could mean that this part number (what ever the number used to be) has changed to the number you listed above the CCM 404.

Interesting thought - and I'm not outright disagreeing with you - but that would mean that one P/N superseded the other, and yet BOTH P/Ns were offered on ALL of the various Ford Parts sites that I went to. That makes me think they are both viable P/Ns.

Another reason why I can't help but think that the description is wrong on one of the P/Ns and one of them actually does support the Heated Steering Wheel function is because we're talking about a Platinum trim level, and I can't believe that no HVAC controller supports a Heated Steering Wheel on a Platty....

To clarify you have a Platinum right? So heated/cooled seat and the HSW buttons are what you are looking for?

Any part numbers that I have seen started out AANA-XXXXX-X and not AAA-NNN. That's what I am basing my logic on.

The part number for a 21 Lariat 502a would be ML3Z-19980-K this is w/ digital readout on knobs, w/ heated and cooled seats w/heated steering, w/defrost. And will fit your truck.

BUT,
The problem is in programming it for your truck. It is and isn't plug and play. The HVAC module, which is what this is, is internally hard coded with a software part number and when you attempt to program it with FDRS it will fail to program due to a part number mismatch. FDRS will only program a module that has the correct part number. This can be overcome if you know how to use Forscan (Beta) and would allow you to retrieve your current software and write it to the replacement module, then you would have to also transfer the Asbuilt information from you truck and write it to the replacement as well. Not for amateurs, I wouldn't attempt it myself. This leaves you with a module that can nolonger be updated via OTA or FDRS should new software become available
Option 2
If you buy a used take out it will work as it's been programed, but you will not know the software revision level, and again updating it becomes a problem.

If you go with either of these options, make sure you've first updated you're existing module to the current level. An update for this module was released in FDRS last summer that addresses Evaporator freeze up issues the new software changes Evaporator temp sensor ranges and AC compressor cycle timing, and if you're in a high humidity southern state this can definitely be a problem.

Well, yes and no....

No, I do not own a Platinum. Yes, I am looking for a digital HVAC control for a '21 Platinum. So yes, a Platinum HVAC control that has the buttons for heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, and is equipped with a heated rear window.

THANK YOU!!!! Fantastic information!!! That response was precisely what I was hunting for! Very informative! Im perfectly at ease with FORScan, but I have zero experience with Beta. Further, I have read that Beta is an animal of a completely different color, and its possible to do some serious damage with Beta. The reprogramming of the module with FORScan Beta might be a little dicey for me. I'm going to have to digest your response a little longer and mull it over. Thanks again for the great response.

Yes, be very careful if you attempt to use Beta, it's not for the faint of heart. Ive seen it done right! But one wrong move and things can go down hill very quickly! ?

As Dirty Harry famously said, "A man's got to know his limitations..."

Yeah, I know very little about Beta, but I know just enough to know that it can be disastrous if even a simple error is made. I know that it is out of my league. I wanted to take a moment, and step back and carefully reread your response, and fully digest it. I'm pretty confident that it would be over my head, and I would be issuing an engraved invitation to disaster.

It seemed like a plausible idea, and worthy of some investigation. Thanks for your guidance!

CCM-404 AND ML3Z-19980-C are the same part. Ford uses a few different part numbers to Identify any particular part. The CCM-404 is what we refer to as the "short number" the 19980 is the "long number" also referred to as the service number. Additionally there will be an engineering number that's typically molded or stamped on the part. For example there 5 different engineering numbers for that Control Assy

ML3T 18C612-CC
ML3T 18C612-CD
ML3T 18C612-CE
ML3T 18C612-CF

If you need more help looking anything up let me know. I have been in Ford parts for 15 years at a dealership.

For a '23 f150 Lariat, what parts would be needed to add heated steering? Is it the heated steering wheel, sccm, and hvac module? Is it as simple as using Forscan to reprogram after installing the parts? Thanks for any help.
