Considering on buying the S&B cold air intake for 22 5.0 STX 4x4. Is there truly any noticeable gains without any tuning? No other mods done to it would be my first mod.

I debated it, but there trucks basically come with a CAI.

CAI are pointless for the 5.0 unless you like underhood eye candy. You'd be better off spending the money on a tune, but even then you're gain won't be massive when it comes to the N/A 5.0.

I have the Corsa CAI on my truck, which is an enclosed filter intake much like the S&B. You can't tell any difference in sound between mine and the factory airbox. I only bought mine so I could clean and reuse the filter over time vs replacing the factory paper filter. It looks nice under the hood, but nobody ever sees it.

With a 12:1 compression ratio you can do a lot with tuning the 5.0, Flex Fuel tunes on E-85 can pick up in excess of 30 horsepower over the stock E-85 programming and even more torque. OZ got something like an extra 50 lb ft on their dyno runs using E-85. This isn’t an old school style motor like a GM LS or LT series, it can actually take full advatage of a fuels octane with the higher compression and Ti-VCT. I agree on the CAI, the real magic happens in a manifold. CAI won’t do any good for any engine, they are just for looks.

I put one and u can’t really hear any sound difference but it looks way better than stock, and I also saw a small mpg increase.

Which filter did you go with and why?

I went with the dry filter, easier to maintain. Just take it off and blow it out from the inside with compressed air.

Waste of money. All they do is take your money and allow more dirt in your engine.

I put the AFE on. I am happy and it was worth the eye candy, so I did it. Check book didn't care. :cool:
AFE is the rare one that is for a 21+. S&B isn't. S&B uses a smaller diameter elbow to connect to the throttle body, AFE doesn't. Also, AFE has a coolant line connector as well.
