I changed my oil yesterday and before starting the truck I wanted to do flood mode to prime the oil pump to prevent a dry start. I have never done this before but I had read about it and decided to try it out. The YouTube video I watched showed the guy pressing the gas and the brake all the way down, then pressing the start button for several cranks, then releasing the gas to start the engine. I did that and the truck started but it had a really rough idle and when I gave it gas there was some noticeable hesitation. I let it idle for a minute or two and then took it for a drive and let me tell you she wasn't happy. The sifts were rough along with some really noticeable hesitation when giving it throttle. When I got back home I let it sit for about 30 minutes and started it back up and to my relief the idle was back to normal. I let it sit overnight and took it for a drive and all is back to normal so I guess it's fine now but has anyone run into this before or can explain why it was idling and driving so bad?

I've never done that in all of the years of changing oil, ever.

I would not concern myself with a so called “dry start”.
oil galleys still have oil, bearings still have oil.
It will be just fine until the oil gets thru the filter and starts building pressure.

Had my 98 Chev serviced years ago by a family owned garage (still use them). One of the boys got called away after draining the oil. He had replaced filter and plug. Few minutes later he returned and started the truck.
I watch his face as it is becoming much more confused looking.
He shuts the truck down after about 45 seconds, gets out, looking VERY concerned.
I just kinda looked at him and mentioned that the oil pressure will come up when he actually puts oil in it. Kid freaked out just a bit and was extremely apologetic, settled down some when I said “Your parents will never hear of this.”
Engine was just fine for years, but eventually was replaced due to oil pressure loss at idle—pump giving up.
That engine now rebuilt and in my 66 ElCamino, with fuel injection.
