My SUV's all had a factory wind deflector that passed air down over the rear window and minimized dirt buildup. I realized that attaching a similar deflector on the top rear of my truck's cap would greatly reduce the dirt coming inside the bed of the truck when driving on dirt roads.

Has anyone seen something like this being sold in the USA? Shipping is very expensive from Australia so not an option.

I don't think I would want to put 4 self tapping screws into an aluminum bodied truck. And then have air pushing against it. Also, when driving a pickup truck, most of the air going by the back window is actually coming up from under the truck between the box and cab. Air flowing over the roof of the cab, causes a low pressure aera behind the back window. This low pressure cause air to come up from under the truck.

Yeah.. I’d just rather wash my truck.

That gives me some 90’s ‘ricer’ vibes - a wing on everything!

He wants to attach it to his topper.

All of my SUVs from various auto manufacturers came standard with a rear deflector and this did keep the rear window a great deal cleaner. The boxy SUV is much like a camper shell on a pickup truck in causing air to swirl up around the back window.

When traveling I do not consider finding a car wash something I want to be doing nor do I want to carry around a garden hose and look for a hose bib with a handle. Evidently the people in Australia feel the same way and so there is a market for rear window air deflectors.

Oddly enough there are many wind deflectors made specifically for use on sedans sold in the USA.

Hopefully, there is one that looks better than that. If not, it would be a no for me. That seems to have a 1970s vibe, and not a good one, IMO.

I've got a topper on my truck and most of the dust comes from underneath like someone else had mentioned. If you seal the seams in the truck's bed, tailgate, and any from the topper, you will probably cut the dust down significantly. Another fix is to open the windows of your topper slightly (if it has that capability). I split my time between rural North Idaho (dirt farm roads on the Palouse, Forest Service roads) and North Dakota (more dirt/gravel roads than paved roads) and the aforementioned is the best you're gonna get in mitigating dust in the bed. Those aftermarket deflectors are gimmicky.

One does not understand the airflow around a truck with a cap if they think that the dirt is coming along the bottom of the truck and then up vertically from the rear bumper. My truck's tires are stirring up the dirt and it flows from the four wheel wells.

I plan to through bolt the fasteners and not use screws or double sided tape (as with the aftermarket spoilers for sedans). This is not unusual with a truck shell and I did it on my last one to add Thule adapters for gutterless vehicles so I could attach cross bars for cargo and kayaks.

Nice addition. Very insightful and useful but if it keeps you off the streets then all is good.
