After reading multiple posts concerning the proper way to charge the vehicle 12 V battery, It makes me wonder how should I properly connect a 30A Viair compressor for airing up (after driving in the sand). I did it once, connected directly to both battery terminal, engine idling. After I finished, a message showed up in the truck, saying battery was low and I should drive further until it recharges. (I do not remember the exact wording though).

Is it due to improper connecting on my part? Or is it the alternator cannot keep up?

cheers,

In theory, if you connect to the external side of the BMS sensor on the negative battery post, the BMS will be able to account for all current entering/exiting the battery.

And 30 AMPs shouldn't tax your alternator beyond its operating parameters.

So perhaps the inability for the BMS to account for the Amp-hour loss from the AGM triggered the alert?

Top red arrow is the BMS sensor. (shunt)
Bottom red arrow is "internal" of the sensor.
Green circle is "external" of the sensor. (the truck frame and ground straps are all external, as well)

I started thinking the same after reading various threads re: battery. Next time I use my compressor, I will follow your advice. Thanks for the quick reply :)
