2021 Ford F150 3.5 L Hybrid Powerboost
I had the same "squeak" when transitioning from gas to electric. I recently purchased a used 2021 F150 3.5 L Powerboost Hybrid (22K miles) and it has been at the dealership for over a month as the dealership has been working with Ford Engineering (if you can believe that) to diagnose. Finally diagnosed as a bad "electrical module" with the transmission and part is on back order. I mentioned the heat exchanger but they did not want to "throw parts at it". Hopefully this resolves the issue and I even get better mileage out of it as a result.

Just had mine replaced today - 8700km on the truck. Surprising the dealer had on in stock. They installed part number is PL3Z5A212B. Looks like the other part number members have been mentioning is an ML part number so maybe it’s been updated.

Interesting. I just had mine fixed and they used part # PL3Z5A212C.

I have had the sound for 8-10 month. Started a little over a year in. Began out of the blue one day while I was letting her run to hear the radio while I wiped her down. Truck runs fine and coolant levels remain stable. It comes and goes with weather and how warn the engine is.

I have Geico mechanical breakdown coverage for 7/70, Premium care for 8/100 and road side assistance through both Ford and AA so I am letting it roll for now. May bring it up at an upcoming service visit to document it but I don't expect them to be able to easily replicate it or start throwing parts at it without some discussion.
Threw a code in March, diagnosed as heat exchanger. Still no drive ability issues but am due to Get a heat exchanger and for some reason a new cat tomorrow under warranty. Didn't think the catalytic converter was part of it but I guess so.

I guess if the valve sticks or malfunctions even just for a minute then goes back to working it throws a code. Mine went away the second I turned it off and on but was stored. Makes my life easier as I get to skip the "could not duplicate" game.

It sounds like whatever mechanism actuates it can have lubrication or interference issues pop up over multiple heat cycles and general wear and tear. I see some of them making the noise a long time before failure so it seems like a gradual wear process due to maybe something mechanical slowly becoming more gummed up over time. Seems like Ford needs to get its hands on a failed valve, feed it power, and watch it and they should be able to find the exact source and a remedy.

Surprise, it indeed was the heat exchanger. Replaced and solved the issue.

I had my '23 Platinum Hybrid go to three different dealerships around my area to have this issue addressed. It started almost a year ago as a very unnoticeable squeak during the ICE to Hybrid transition and now has blossomed into the most god annoying squeak you could expect. I didn't care for it as much during the winter since I drove with the windows up but now that the weather has started to warm up, driving with my windows down and hearing the noise has been frustrating to say the least.

My main dealership stated the noise was normal and that the truck has no issues. Even after letting the tech listen to the noise when idling and the engine transitioning.

The second dealership gave me a print out of turbo noises and how they can cause a "squeak" like I was an idiot. Yes, apparently the turbo spools when idling.. ? ban listed dealership.

The third dealership also stated that this noise was normal and it nothing can be done as there was no CEL. If a CEL came on they would research more into the issue.

So I almost sold the truck, but as this is my fourth Ford Vehicle, I'd figure I call Ford USA and talk to someone about my issue. The rep was friendly on the phone (maybe to get good marks on the survey at the end) and advised me to bring it into my dealership and call them once again with my case number and Ford USA would advocate on behalf of me to the dealership to get this fixed.

I have it scheduled to bring it in this Friday and will update you all regardless of the outcome. We will see if Ford can keep a customer or lose one for life.

I just wanted to follow up on my repair since I thought it may help others out there. The Ford USA representative followed up with me and attached a case manager for me on my account. The case manager than spoke with me and ensured my issue would be resolved by contacting the dealer after I dropped off the truck.

It's a bit hilarious that once I mentioned to the service advisor that I had a Ford case number for my issue, he checked my history and said the previous tech that diagnosed my vehicle the first time I brought it up was a "junior" and that he would assign a senior tech for my issue. (This is before I even gave him my case number). So I assume if you go to a dealership and lightly hint about going to corporate, they may treat your issue with more seriousness.

Anyways my service advisor gave me a call today and let me know the truck was ready and the noise is gone, culprit being the exhaust diverter valve. I attached a picture of the warranty invoice for your information.

In the end, Ford corporate resolved my issue and so far am satisfied with the result. It was very weird driving home in a "quieter" truck and hearing silence during the hybrid transition. I hope this may help further owners with the same issue!

Best of luck.

I think this is the sound I get on my 21 also sometimes, to me almost like some type of shield making metal to metal contact and then you get that squeal/chirp for a split second.
