After a lengthy discussion the dealer first offered to flush the system, then changed their mind ... they are going to rebuild the trans again.

While I wouldn't wish your plight on anyone, the fact that the issue is now acknowledged as a legitimate malfunctioning of the 10r80, is great news. Afterall, it's an admission that the operating temperature should be within a published range.

Update: Dealer is putting in a brand new transmission. I asked about the cooling side of the system and they said they'd flush it and check it out.

Update: the dealer checked out the transmission cooling system. They found an unresponsive coolant control valve AND a restriction in the transmission cooler. They installed new transmission, new cooler, and new control valve. All seems to be working good at the moment. The real test is when I pull the camper again.
