I'm taking delivery today or tomorrow if all goes well. I stopped up last night to take a sneak peek, and one thing that caught me by surprise (and, hopefully it's just a little mud spray - truck wasn't prepped yet) is the body color under the truck appeared different. Like, quite a bit a different. I bought Guard, which perhaps is a multi-layer paint or something, but it appeared almost like there's just some sort of base coat under the truck. Again, I'll look closer, and at other trucks on the lot today, but I thought I'd post here to see if any others noticed anything like this. If it's known that the body underside is supposed to have 100% the same finish as exterior, that'd be helpful too. (Rear Axle looked perfect! - BTW).

No good pics yet. (Dark last night, and I didn't take delivery yet.) Today I may take some, but only if it really does seem different than the other trucks on the lot. Perhaps 2-tone has something to do with it too...

Not gonna be any real “PAINT” underneath.
There will be overspray, but it will not be intentionally painted.
The bottom of mine looks to be a yellow color, probably part of the dipping and corrosion protection.
I’ve restored a couple of cars, and those things weren’t painted either.
My former 59 ElCamino and my current 66 ElCamino were just a red oxide primer, and for all intents and purposes outlasted the intended life of the car.
My 65 Ranchero has got a yellow corrosion preventative and some spots of flat black.
The black most likely showed up when they were painting the engine bay.
( the Ranchero is a family owned car since new)
That coating outlasted the intended life of the car as well.
Let’s face it. well over 75% of these trucks will end up in a crusher or parts yard before they are 15 yrs old.
Square body Chevrolets and 80-90 Fords all but completely disappeared by 2000.
(Tho I still have my 79 that I bought new when I was 18)
Ten years ago when I bought my 98 K1500, they were all over the place like flys in a pasture, now I might see one or two a day and finding stuff for them is getting more difficult ( which is bothersome to me as I love my 98 )
Even the lowly Ranger—when I bought mine new in ‘05, they were were all over the place in every available configuration and now they are getting a bit tougher to find (at a reasonable price). Kind of a shame, nearly bulletproof truck for what it was designed for, and mine was absolutely trouble free until a month before I sold it last month.
I may very well keep this truck long enough for her to sell to pay for my planting, and I’m still not concerned about lack of paint on the bottom or a rusty differential or front driveshaft—-has anyone looked at that—looks like it came off a 41 Willys but with a brand new sticker that says—Scrap if Dropped.

In areas like underneath the body and under panels and such, I don’t think that’s too out of the ordinary. If you have Guard green, those areas will likely look like a very matte or flat green. I believe that is because those areas lack multiple layers of paint and a clear coat.

Where was your truck built. Dearborn or Kansas city? Trying to determine if this is a Dearborn issue primarily.

I thought Guard color was KC only,
I believe that I read that on an earlier post which would lay blame on the Dearborn assembly plant for this rust issue which I believe Ford should really address and stop sweeping it under the carpet. Really bad move on their part in my estimation.

It's not an issue.... The undersides are either an e-coat or primer. They don't base/clear the undersides

Yup. Took it for a ride and did a more thorough inspection today. There's spots they clearly try to hit good, like the wheel wells where you can see the vertical outside of the bed, but the whole underside is just overspray if any color. Same with all trucks I looked at on the lot. Kind of goldish coating of sorts in the spots without Exterior paint color. I intend to add the wheel liners like many have done here, but interesting that Ford isn't trying to hit the lower corners on the inside of the wheel wells better.
