I currently need an oil change, but for whatever reason am reluctant to bring to the dealership while the recall related to the ‘heat barrier adhesive’ issue is going on. There have been reports that if this shield scraped the driveshaft, then the dealership has to keep your truck until they can remedy that issue as well. Given the supply chain issues that seem to abound in today’s world - I’m just worrying about bringing it in for something as simple as an oil change.

I can obviously take it to any old oil change place to work on it, but have generally preferred to take it to the dealership for oil changes.

I’m probably overthinking it, but thinking about NOT taking it to the dealership. Need the truck to pull my trailer in a few weeks and it’s set up exactly how I like it.

I had a similar concern for the same reasons.
I checked the driveshaft before I took it in to make sure it wasn't damaged. Mine was perfect so I took it in, had the recall done and an oil change, no problems.

Crawl under the truck and check the insulation and drive shaft. My insulation was sagging but not rubbing the drive shaft so I called the dealership and they had to order the parts so in the meantime I bought some HVAC tape and secured the insulation. When they finally got the parts in they called and I took it in. I do believe the insulation would have rubbed the drive shaft if I had not checked it when I did.

As Dan suggested, just take a look for yourself first. The driveshaft is a dull aluminum shaft and should look uniform from end to end. If anything rubs against it you will definitely see a shiny spot on it.

Did the same thing. Foil taped mine. Had recall and oil change done this afternoon.
