Hi guys
2015 F150 SuperCrew 6.5 bed. Changing my u joints out of precaution; truck is higher miles. They've never been changed before. There were no issues present before I decided to change them. U joints were tight. They came out without issue with my press. I have now tried 2 different u joints, Moog 231, and GMB 215-0178.
In some of the yokes, they are a press fit where you need to tap them in with a hammer, and others I can wiggle and get them in all the way without any external force. In my mind, that isn't right. Worried they will spin in the yokes.
I only cleaned up the bores with a bit of red scotch brite, nothing else, as there wasn't really much cleaning that needed to be done.
Anyone else experience this before on an OEM 2 piece steel shaft? I've heard of dimpling the yokes or using retaining compound which I might try since I'm not sure I have another option except to scrap the perfectly good shaft...I've done quite a few u joints before, but haven't seen this. It's my first Ford.
