I have finally given up. After 8 attempts to repair the P084B, P2884 & P2885 hybrid transmission codes that resulted in the “Pull Over Safely Now” message and the truck dying at the side of the road, I have completed the Ford Buyback procedure. Ford replaced the sensors, then reflashed the software, replaced the hybrid drive, reflashed the software, replaced the entire transmission, reflashed the software again, replaced the sensors again, and nothing fixed the truck. I believe the Ford mechanic at my dealership was doing the best he could. Ford sent out engineers three times trying to fix my truck. They couldn’t figure out the cause of the failure. The last straw for me was, after my putting 12,000 miles on the Ford loaner truck, they took the loaner away from me. Ford’s original refund offer was around $30,000 on a $83,000 (purchase price $77,000) truck plus a refund of $4,300 of my full ESP purchase price. We renegotiated to $$45,100 plus $4300 ESP, my reason that was ok because it reflected the middle Blue Book value. I just bought a new Toyota Tundra Capstone. It’s a capable enough truck, but really lacking in many of the great features in the F-150. I hope Ford gets their act together someday, but right now I would never consider purchasing another Ford vehicle.

That stinks, but they seemed to have treated you fairly on the buyback at least. That was new technology in the F-150s back in 2021, so I understand not wanting to go back to that type of vehicle. But why swear off of Ford altogether and not go with a non-hybrid F-150 if you liked the features over the Tundra?

A couple years back I was at a vintage race event. Jim Farley and I were both racing in the Historic Trans Am class. In conversation I mentioned something about my F150. Jim turned to his two sons and told them to thank me for helping to pay for their college educations. With hindsight, that exchange doesn’t sit well with me. I think the money should be spent on improving reliability. When I started the buyback process, the Ford consultant I was working with apologized in advance for the amount of time it would take to conclude the process. She said it normally takes about 3 days to prepare the paperwork but it was now taking weeks because they were so backed up with the extreme number of defective vehicles they were dealing with. I think it’s not a good time to buy a Ford until they improve this situation.

Something to be said for leasing a truck where it costs less to turn it back in at the dealer. If there are no issues the cost to buying out the lease is usually a better deal than trading it in on a new truck.

A lease would not work for me. I drive 30,000 miles per year. I bought a 150,000 mile extended service plan and assumed I would be covered until I sold the truck in 5 years. I never could have guessed that the truck was literally unrepairable.

After all the issues with my truck and the fact that it is still sitting at the dealership unfixable for over 170 days now, I also will never buy another Ford vehicle again.

I had the same problem with my 2021 PB (read my posts for details, way too much to share here). I got a deal on a 2023 3.5EB with similar options as a replacement, very happy being non-PB. Already have 48K miles in 13 months! My neighbor is doing a buy back on his 2023 Tundra - engine problems. It is a thing I guess ...
