A bit ago, I was walking the yard looking at anything amiss from last night's horrible windy storm.
This little turd...had the nerve to break ground right next to me..here these guys do more damage to humans than snakes..they burrow just under the soil..mske perfect ankle twisting booby traps
We usually sit just above there holes and snipe them with a .410.....but this. Morning my sniper was not close and I didn't want to loose this guy
So grabbed the 4 foot wrenching bar from shed amd stood over his hole, since he was so active. I waited until i saw the dirt push up from his new tunnel and Jab went the bar..got me my first wrecking bar kill. Didn't think I got him, until the wrecking bar was withdrawn
Human 1, mole rat 0
He has a nice omg pose don't you think

Suggestion if you have a big problem with them: Take some old piece of small engine-powered equipment and rig up an exhaust pipe/hose that can be stuck down into their holes. Such machines made for the purpose cost over $2000 (!) The way I see it, an old lawnmower or tiller or something with a running engine and a set of wheels could be repurposed for a tiny fraction of the cost.

We have tried, poison gas, propane ,
Grits with arsenic,
M80s . The tunnels don't connect and they are like beavers. Build dams that water and gas can't reach, like a p trap.
They feed on mole crickets at base of the hay rows, about 12 to 16 inches deep
We have gone scorched earth a few times.
Buzzards like them served up fresh in the next field
Makes killing the food source impossible
So .410, .20 gauge or now a wrecking bar?

How can carbon monoxide not reach them?
Because they dig fast and not all tunnels are active
You can have many and no two ever cross.
I am sure we poisoned many , but not all
.410 works best...eye for an eye so to speak

The buggers like my septic field, so I use a sulfur smoke flare. Light it, drop it in a hole, they are done for. I plug up all the holes I can find with newspaper first. Nice thing is I can buy the flare locally.
