I was doing a little searching because I had always assumed the small 2.7 was lighter. Turns out that the 2.7 is like 440lbs and the 3.5 isn't but 10lbs more. The 5.0 is something like 450 and the 3.3 is the the only odd ball at 350ish. I guess the weight difference between the 3 motors almost doesn't matter in terms of handling.

Does that include the accessories like the turbos? You would think the 3.3 and the 2.7 would be closer.

Certain engine options will force other options like a 9.75" rear axle or a solid swaybar, so the info I have posted below doesn't directly compare the weights of the engines themselves and instead shows how each engine option impacts the total base curb weight of the truck.

2023 F150 Supercrew 4WD 145.4"
3.3 V6: 4747 lbs
2.7 V6: 4838 lbs (+91 lbs)
2.7 V6 w/ payload package: 4931 lbs (+184)
5.0 V8: 4912 lbs (+165)
3.5 V6: 4948 lbs (+201)
3.5 Powerboost: 5517 lbs (+770)

2023 F150 Regular Cab 2WD 141.5"
3.3 V6: 4134 lbs
2.7 V6: 4263 lbs (+127 lbs)
2.7 V6 w/ payload package: 4420 lbs (+286)
5.0 V8: 4398 lbs (+264)
5.0 V8 Max Trailer Tow: 4524 (+390)
3.5 V6: 4428lbs (+294)
3.5 V6 Max Trailer Tow: 4600 lbs (+466)

They should all be very similar in weight, since they are all V-6 engines. They all have the same engine block (different bore, stroke) to achieve the different displacements, which would be very minimal in weight difference. and all the other parts bolted to the engine are essentially the same, intake, exhaust, 2 turbos, alternator, etc...

And yeah the V8 is the just the same thing with 2 additional cylinders, but no turbos, so it all kinda just works itself out.

And then of course the base V6 is No turbos, so less turbo weight, less exhaust manifold weight.

I was under the impression the 2.7 and 3.5 were very different.

The 5.0L V8 is not a heavy engine, it is actually very cutting edge in design. Ford uses a very high strength webbed aluminum casting for the block as well as removing the traditional steel liners in favor of a lighter yet harder wire plasma transfer arc cylinder liner system. This is what allowed for larger bores and why our 2021+ V8 are 307 cubic inches vs the previous version of this engine being 302 cubic inches. Makes for a lightweight yet super durable package, internals are all forged as well.

Huh, was just reading some of the wikepedia on them, apparently they are fairly different, not even the same engine family. The 2.7 is a compacted-graphite iron block where the 3.5 is aluminum.

Maybe Ford just designed them all to be of similar weight to limit the number of front suspension parts required to build the trucks....

Yeah I'm not sure the liners were great ideas given the insane oil consumption issues, but it doesn't sound like that's much of a problem anymore for some reason in the gen14s.

New part #’s for pistons and piston rings on the 2021+ 5.0 engines. The oil burning TSB only applies to the older 2018-2020 engines. My 2023 hasn’t used a drop.

2.7 uses the CGI block, very heavy compared to the aluminum used on the 3.5
IIRC, CGI is the same material used to make diesel engine blocks. The 2.7 can (and I think it does) run pretty high boost, relative to the 3.5. I don’t remember psi numbers but I remember the 2.7 runs like 5-7 psi more than the 3.5

Yeah I think I've seen the gauge hit 18psi when I was giving it the beans in my 2.7.

Get this, the 5.4 3V Triton used in 04-2010 was 540 pounds without accessories. Talk about a boat anchor out front. And I owned two of them :ROFLMAO:

The 2.7 is quite literally half the displacement of the 5.4 and makes a lot more power and torque…all while being much more reliable too lol
