Sometimes as a (ex Navy) builder, you are privileged to get to do some cool stuff to honor the many amazing people who not only served, but are the families who bore the brunt of service and in whose memory the sacrifice lives on....

Every trade involved in this build answered the call and donated their time and materials as soon as they were told the reason and who it was for... without fail, in every case businesses who were booked for months in advance, downed tools and made space for us.... donated time, (sometimes expensive) materials, equipment and goodwill... I've never seen anything like it....

During the build many wives and children came out to see what was being done in their honor... completely at the initiative of Hershel "Woody' Williams.. the last surviving Medal of Honor recipient (at the time.. RIP).... An amazing man to chat to...

The dedication service was done by Woody himself and the support of so many other services/fire brigade/police and local veterans in honor of and for the families to have a place and point to remember was awe inspiring.....

This weekend take a moment to stop and give thanks to the men and woman who bravely put country over even their very lives, and have given the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in a democracy free from tyrants and despots. Thank you for your sacrifice and thanks to all veterans who serve. They are the ones making this country great. Lets keep it that way and not be the generation that loses it for the future generations.

@HDT05 - That is a wonderful memorial and you should be very proud of yourself for having a hand in its construction. Nice that you documented it in pictures.

As a Canadian, I also honor the men and women that fought side by side with our troops in the numerous wars and conflicts that both our countries fight in to preserve democracy and freedoms.
I have spend numerous years going to the Indy500 and the amount of dedication provided there, at a sporting event, to all the defenders that were lost, wounded, and came home in shambles.
It was truly humbling for me to see.

Glory be to God! I belive every American needs to walk Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Vietnam, Korea, and WW2 Memorials. It is truly humbling the sacrifices so many have made for our freedom and the freedom of those around the world. We are ALL blessed to live in this country. Peace be with the dead and to those living!.
