My truck isn’t scheduled to be built until the end of March and i wanted to make changes to it. The salesperson i am currently working said that it is too late to do so. Are they blowing smoke up my a** or what? Could someone who knows better possibly chime in on this topic for me please? TIA!

Once you have a vin (and if u have a build date you have a vin) you can’t make changes.

now I have heard a couple people make small changes that don’t affect the vin (aka interior workstation) but few and far between.

u definitely can’t change a colour or engine etc…

I don't know better but I'll share my experience.

If your change does not require a new VIN to be generated, then you might be able to get away with it. The VIN contains a lot of specifics about the body, engine, bed, assembly plant, etc and can be decoded here.

In my case, after submitting my order in December (and receiving a VIN), our area got hit by a bad snowstorm and took our power out for a weekend. It was at that point that I realized that I'd screwed the pooch by NOT ordering the 72.KW PPO option instead of the 2.4Kw panel.

I called up the dealer to ask if I could upgrade, yet advised them not to do anything if it was going to delay the order and make me start from scratch. Apparently they were able to do so because no new VIN was necessary, and I'm thinking that we were able to edit it well before my first proposed build week was near.

Now, I still don't have the damned truck so I could be blowing smoke here. But in the tracker, I have the 7.2Kw option listed.

So I will go on record as saying that "it might be possible" as long as it's done early enough AND a new VIN is not required.

YMMV

I would have your dealer try it. It will either accept it or not. I added fog light and 20” wheels after I had a vin. And scheduled date. Vin. Associated things cannot be changed!
