Was watching a few You Boob videos about changing out the tail/stop/turn signal lights on my XLT. Looks easy enough. To overcome the hyper flash, I'll use FORSCAN to change the rear bulb setting to LED (pretty ,much what I did with the turn signals on my 2020 Explorer ST).

Have only one question ... one of the videos showed using a red LED vs the white one I had planned to use. Any truth to using RED ones? If so, I'll swap out the white ones I have.

Thanks in advance.

Ken,

There is truth there. I am going to assume that your XLT has the red tail light with the two halogen bulbs that are integrated brake and turn signal and a LED reverse light. If this is your tail light, you should place red LED bulbs in this housing.

The same is true for the LED reflector headlight housings that have the halogen turn signal in an amber lens. Replace that bulb with an amber LED bulb.

Unless the lens is clear, replace the bulb with the same color of the lens. I don't know the exact science here, but there are several videos of clear bulbs in a colored housings and the light output is reduced and the color washed a bit.

Let me know how it turns out!

Hope this helps.

Are you kidding me, you have to do ForScan just to replace the bulbs to be LED's and not have them flash fast?

does anyone have the bulb # handy for this? I have a 2024XLT and looking to upgrade to the LED. I believe license plate is 194 so just need tail/turn/break. Thanks in advance!

I thought these replacement lights had something inside them to not need resistors
