On 07/07 I order a Lariat (basically fully loaded with spec below) but just today I came across a ‘fairly’ stock Platinum (only add on was 701 high package). Need some help to distinguish whether the Platinum is worth it and what the differences are.

So far differences I’ve noticed are:
1. The front seats are massage seats (Platinum)
2. Wireless charger (Platinum)
3. Badging it black/chrome (Platinum)

If the plat has everything you wanted, is available now and you don’t mind the extra spend…. Well… it’s available now.

I think the Lariat is a better value but nobody is really expecting normal ordering times this year.

There is very little price difference between an optioned out Lariat 502a and a platinum.

To be honest, it is missing stuff I want. I can do some aftermarket but like exterior color not so much.

I would wait for what I want in that case. There is a lariat on my dealers lot for the last month that is almost identical to my order other than a few little things and most importantly, color.

It’s okay though, my wait is nearly over and it will be exactly what I wanted.

Kind of the deal I had with a optioned out XLT and Lariat. I went for the Lariat.

I was comparing the same thing. Almost loaded Lariat Sport v Platinum. Came down to me liking the Platinum interior better. I’m not a fan of the reddish brown accents. What a color choice by Ford. I know some like it though. I would have expected if you’re going to black everything else out on the Sport to black out the interior too. Might just be me.

Im actually getting it without the sport package for the solid black interior. I agree the red/brown color is a tad out there for me as well. I plan to wrap/change out the chrome later on.

But then ford stupidly adds the grey headliner instead of black.

ford really screwed up on the sport package imo. I’ll be swapping out the door cardsand center arm rest for black - and try and figure a way to swap the vinyl dash inserts too.

I'm pretty sure the head liner is black. At least on a Lariat it is. Hope that's some consolation.

Yeah, headliner on a Lariat is absolutely black. No clue where they would get grey from. I love the sport package Lariat interior. My last two trucks had all black interiors. and they are so boring. Not saying the color choice Ford used was the best possible, but it looks infinitely better than any all black interior F-150 I have seen. When seen in person and after you are in it for an hour where you just take in the whole look, it is fantastic. But it's unusual compared to all black so some people can't stop focusing on the color. You need to let yourself get over the fact that it's different and focusing on it, and just take it all in.

I was worried about it because of the negative posts I have seen about it. But after my truck was delivered and I got in it, man I have zero complaints.

One thing about the Wireless Charger also, I have seen many, MANY people unhappy with that charger. Especially owners of phones like the iPhone 12 with Magsafe as it seems to rarely sit in the right spot, or it slides off too easy because of the angle.

I was bummed about not having the wireless charger in my Lariat, but after seeing all the negative threads about the charger I am actually a bit relieved. I found this through another users post: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089VVG3ZP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It fits perfectly in the spot where the wireless charger is on the Platinum, and just stays plugged in to the USB A port and has a short enough cable it isn't in the way. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, with a thick case, and I can just toss it into the spot and it starts charging every time. Have taken it on road trips and everything, phone never slides off.

Always nicer to have built in, but in this case I am fine with it since it seems to be better functionally, and I still have the USB C port up there for my phone if I need it for some reason, or if my wife wants to charge. Plus the two ports in the center console if absolutely needed.

The only reason I have seen to go Platinum are the massaging seats. My Lariat stickers a good deal above or on level with a Platinum, but I would take the Lariat any day of the week. I am way happier seeing my Lariat than any Platinum I have ever seen. But obviously looks are subjective so aside from the seats it really just comes down to which truck you like to see more.

I'll be sticking with my Lariat for a few reasons. The primary is the fact that the Lariat (basically loaded) still costs less than the Platinum. Second the Lariat is spec'd out exactly how i want/like. In the end I don't care about the wireless charges or massage seats. I've seen a few different wireless products which fit the bill. This is the one I have lined up when my order eventually comes in.

The massage seats ore more of a gimmick for me.

I don't think the seats are a gimmick personally. I have only heard good things about them, and a friend of mine had two F-150 Lariats and just got a 2021 Limited, and said the seats are fantastic. They are the only thing about the trim levels above Lariat that is even remotely appealing. I just can't get over the exterior looks on those trim levels, certain aspects of them at least. Any time I see them on the road they just look like a combination of boring and yet somehow still ostentatious, I think it's the giant tailgate badges and that. Again though, that's just me. Everyone has opinions and likes/dislikes, why chrome packages and sport packages and 22" wheels and 18" wheels and everything in between continue to be there generation after generation.

You’re going to pull the dash out of a brand new truck and dissect it? Good luck!
